Washington (CNN) After several weeks in which the influx of tens of thousands of undocumented children illegally crossing the border into the United States has dominated the headlines, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush wrote an op-ed about the issue, calling for a change in how the children are handled after they are arrested - and also urging his fellow Republicans not to use this as an "excuse" to abandon comprehensive immigration reform.
His Wall Street Journal opinion piece that published Wednesday evening is similar to the statement he released to CNN last week and is just the second time he's spoken on the issue that has caused national debate as unaccompanied children continue to cross the border at an increasing rate.
The potential 2016 presidential candidate wrote in the in the Wall Street Journal, "We now have a humanitarian crisis on our Southern border that demands strong leadership that respects the rule of law."
In the opinion piece he said the children, who are originally from Central America, deserve compassion, writing, "They are trying to escape horrific gang violence and dire conditions," but he also called for more strident action against them: "We must close loopholes that allow for individuals to be released from federal custody between hearings. Except for those deserving few who may demonstrate true cause for asylum or protection from sex trafficking, these children must be returned to their homes in Central America." A vast majority of the children don't show up for their detention hearings.

It’s hard to imagine a more dispiriting prospect than a presidential race between Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush.

"We now have a humanitarian crisis on our Southern border that demands strong leadership that respects the rule of law." Hey, Jeb, it was lack of respect for the rule of law by US presidents, beginning with your father in 1988, followed by Slick Willie, then your brother W and then Obama, that has allowed 15 to 20 million illegals to squat in the US since the amnesty of 1986.
But you should be thrilled to see all these new "acts of love" demonstrated by this latest flooding of our open southern border.

Jebbie is a lot of things, but he is not “clueless”, just another totalitarian, with himself and his own family exempt from the rules.

Shut up, Jeb....just because you wake up next to a Latina everyday, doesn't mean we need to import enough of them that we all will be. Your opinion means squat.

This is the issue that conservatives must stand on. I don’t care if it makes us racists or what ever. I
am seeing what these illegals are doing to the lower end job market in my area. No more. I am no longer a republican after being one all my life. The GOP must stand against this. I will not vote for an amnesty candidate no matter what the opposition is. No more lesser of two evils for me.

Don’t these people understand that what we are experiencing at the border now IS comprehensive immigration reform. This is it; it doesn’t have to be passed.

comprehensive reform is impossible as long as the president can unilaterally decide to not enforce the law.
Now, if we could include a penalty in the legislation... like automatic removal from office should the president not fulfill his duty to enforce the laws, THEN maybe a comprehensive package MIGHT be an option. But until and unless something is passed that FORCES the president to act to hold up his end of the bargain, then no compromise is possible.

I am seeing what these illegals are doing to the lower end job market in my area.
San Antonio is BOOMING in construction, but it has been very hard for over a year to find people to hire in the electrical business! When we talk about people becoming electricians and working in construction, we have heard many different questions and statements by Americans who, if they took the chance to learn the skills, could be a high-dollar blue-collar worker within four years! We have heard, "Aren't those jobs low-paying and being outsourced?" or "I don't know if I can work in construction, I don't speak Spanish." and "Too many illegals for me to work around."
I told them, our company ONLY hires legals, and most reputable contractors require ONLY legals. More importantly, you can be making $20+ an hour within four years and if enough Americans would get into the industry, you wouldn't have all the other concerns and problems about which you are worried!
But, Obama and the Democrats WANT these low-level parasites to siphon off the labor and keep the wages lower, so that they can scream that the 1% are KILLING the middle-class. When in fact, it is their demand to allow every uneducated, low-wage worker to walk across the border and take work away from the middle-class Americans! THAT is what is PRIMARILY killing off the American middle-class!
