Just a strawman. No one said anything about sending troops. With this logic, you undermine the conservative interpretation of the cold war. Any reaction to the Soviets ought to be met with isolationism and defeatism. That is your position, while stupidly accusing people of wanting to send in "troops,' as if that's the only thing that can be done.

You're behind times:

Obama orders American ‘military advisors’ to support Ukraine against pro-Russian rebels

The Cold War was a different conflict, in which many folks around here apparently insist on re-living. The USSR was ideologically committed to world domination, and we had to act to prevent a complete global takeover by the Communists. Moreover, we had the moral authority and the economic, political, and military might with which to first contain and then defeat the Soviets.

Putin is not a Communist anymore, but a neo-Tsarist, whose goal is to rebuild the old Russian Empire, circa January 1917. He wants a European and Asian hegemony, not a complete takeover of the world. Hence, the Ukrainian conflict, which the West set off anyway by meddling there, is regional in nature, and none of our business. Additionally, even if it was our business, the U.S. no longer has the moral authority, as well as the economic and military power, to do anything about it, the current Obama regime.

I like how the Paulbots and other freaks always like to tell us how the "cold war" is over and everybody who says otherwise is crazy. We have a Russkie President who is former KGB, operating what is essentially a KGB state, with a media that is programming his people to hate Americans and blame us for all the world's ills, and with a military actively attempting to rebuild the Soviet Union and beyond.

This is called "the cold war."

Putin is not a Communist anymore, but a neo-Tsarist, whose goal is to rebuild the old Russian Empire, circa January 1917.

Putin is a communist, and the "Neo-Tsarists" in Russia are also Communists. They even say so. There are "ultranationalist" and "Orthodox" Christian Communists, and they sing the same tune, and that tune is Putin and him running things, and death to the United States.

"Russia is the only country in the world which is really capable of turning the USA into radioactive ash." - Dmitry Kiselyov, General Director of Russia Today

"An important aspect of the Eurasian worldview is an absolute denail of Western Civilization. In the opinion of the Eurasians, the West with its ideology of liberalism [Democracy] is an absolute evil." - Aleksandr Dugin, Political Scientist and adviser to MP Sergei Naryshkin

He wants a European and Asian hegemony, not a complete takeover of the world.

IOW, he just wants part of the world, not all of it.

Additionally, even if it was our business, the U.S. no longer has the moral authority, as well as the economic and military power, to do anything about it, the current Obama regime.

No one ever had moral authority fighting the Nazis. They were teamed up with Joseph Stalin. That is not a reason to not defend yourself. If I am guilty of some great sin, that does not mean it is okay for someone to rape and murder my family. This is no logic at all.

Just to add to your post....

....during the Cold War there was ‘diplomacy’ and ‘safeguards’ that are not there today with our run away administration and that of Ukraine's. Nuclear weaponry was considered ‘mutually’ a last resort.

In 2002 A Senate discussion with Defense took place where it was spoken that certain Nuclear weapons could be used “safely” in a conventional war without affecting the nearby citizenry, and that use of these would ‘not require’ Presidential consent.

That session sent shivers down everyone’s spine and.. ‘changed the equation’.. entirely from the cold war parameters and safeguards. We are no longer in that era.

I agree the Russia today is not the Russia of that time as well...and will add....the Russian people are accustomed to hard and difficult times, they will continue to rally with Putin the more the US pushes against their leader, who has already proved his allegiance to their country and it's people....they 'trust' him even if some may at times may question his moves. ( just a side note FYI.....Kiev's directing scads of revenues and rapidly building up their airstipes.)

This guy got it right even back then.

You gotta see this!

FOOTAGE Shows Unexploded BM30 SMERCH Missile “in Living Room”....in East Ukraine...(IMO this has nothing to do with ridding East Ukraine's of “terrorist’... This looks like warfare missiles and all the destruction that goes with him or without declared war....these are being used throughout Donetsk and Lugansk communities....and even OSCE reported to UN that Kiev is firing where there are no separatists or terrorist’s, rather civilian areas causing no threat.....Kiev is absolutely destroying Eastern Ukraine...for profit!
