California Pot Farms Use 50% More Water than City of San Francisco

Scientists with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are warning that streams harboring endangered salmon and steelhead could go dry because of the heavy water consumption by marijuana growers.

During the growing season, California “pot farms” consume 60 million gallons of water a day. That equals 50% more than is consumed by the entire city of San Francisco.

...

Two men were arrested were arrested last week at a Santa Cruz County pot farm that state authorities said used diverted stream water and threatened steelhead trout and endangered Central Coast Coho salmon. The raid netted 180 mature marijuana plants from a 6-acre property said California Fish and Wildlife spokesman Andrew Hughan.

An anonymous tip led Fish and Wildlife officials to the sophisticated operation where it is believed that hundreds of thousands of gallons of water had been illegally redirected from the south fork of San Vicente Creek

You sure seem to have plenty of time to make dishonest, inaccurate and nasty personal attacks.

It is gibberish, but you seem to dislike Texas as well, and for some reason you are lying about me posting something about Texas.

All I did was post this, and it set you off in a rage.

Care to explain what is in that simple post that set you off into raging ramblings?

Are you aware that you are not supposed to drag around your personal grudges from thread to thread, and try to stir up personal grudges and battles, look at this thread and explain what in the heck you are raging about.
Which post of mine is related to what you are spewing out and all your hostility and anger?

They have water meters?

Gotta call BS on their numbers. It would take dams and pumps to get that kind of volume.

get rid of the golf courses

With fertilizers causing pollution runoff and the excessive use of water for those perfect courses, something should've been done. Why not find grasses that grow easily naturally and don't need more than the rain in an area?

Assuming the water crisis that seems to be emerging is real, that's an argument for not growing no nutrition tobacco and pot in areas that require water resources that impact supply. Same with the ski slope situation. A lot of water doesn't get off the mountains and into the water supply because of snowmaking. Ski slopes should be accountable for not drying up the water resources.

It's been said for years that the wars that tear the US apart will be water wars.

Rage? No. Annoyed? Most definitely.

Apparently, you throw rocks at so many different posters you can’t
remember one from another. If you care to research then check the
posting history. I just ask you to leave me alone because it is no
better to stock someone than it is to carry a grudge from one thread
to another. Your MO is to divide people and not to unify just like other
CA haters who make blanket comments. I don’t need it.

You are raging, and about something from some past thread evidently since there is no hint on this thread at what set you off on this nasty personal attack while avoiding any serious posting or any effort to support your wild attacks.

You are raving in a way that makes no sense. Post 32 is accurate, and it is simple, with no reason for you to have exploded in rage and nasty attacks.

If you disagree with with post 32, just disagree with it, so far you haven’t.

Do you have any idea what posting history is? I
am talking about a prior thread from awhile back.
You come across others cannot be conservative
if they don’t tow your line completely.

I don’t give two dead flies what you call rage.
Your post 32 is OPINION! If you don’t like
my “rage” then don’t stick your nose into
my posts. I don’t much care for you because
of the above stated reasons and, yes, I have
followed some of your interactions w/others.

So you admit to stalking, that explains why none of your posts to me were related to this thread or my post to you.

I have no idea what you are rambling about, or what old thread so scarred you that you can’t move on, but you need to stop the personal attacks and force yourself to focus on the thread, and our posts.

If it were me stalking you I would be jumping into your dialog
with others. No, that is your MO. Your typical boorish behavior
causes me to avoid you. All I ask is that you treat me likewise.

You won’t have to worry about “personal attacks” if you don’t
respond to my dialog with other posters. Your post #32 wasn’t
even germaine to my prior post about the agricultural worthiness
of California, anyway. You stuck your nose in it most likely because
I invoked “Texas” even though I wasn’t being critical. BTW, I
try to keep my criticisms central to liberalism. Little good comes
from painting everyone from one place with the same broad brush.
Many good conservatives in CA. I could appreciate what posters like
you do if you would take your act to lib sites. But you like to pick
fights w/those who you should be treating like allies.

Well, let’s try this again then and see if we can get you off the personal and onto the thread.

When someone posted this early in the thread about drug farming in California using up valuable resources.:

One has to love the fact that California will soon become either a third world country...or if they’re lucky...a below sea level part of the Pacific following the big one.
At least the latter possibility will eliminate the drought problem.

You posted this:

A third world country?
Yah, a third world country that produces twice the agricultural output
as Texas, the next leading agricultural state in the nation. That doesn’t
seem to say much for the rest of the country.

And then I posted this very relevant, but simple post in response to yours:

I was responding to the “One has to LOVE (my emphasis)the
fact that California will SOON (my emphasis)become either
a third world country...or if they’re LUCKY (my emphasis)
...a below sea level part of the Pacific following the big
one”.

I used that insult to point out that California is and
will be an important part of America’s agriculture in
order to demonstrate that California becoming a third
world country would not be something for the rest of
the country to “love”.

All you did with your post was to pile on. And, the last
time we tangled you indicated that California basically
always leaned Democrat. You rambled on about how much
you knew about California from living here. Now, you
state in your irrelevant post that California has only
been Democrat for the last couple of decades (closer to
accurate but still irrelevant to my point). Which is it,
always Democrat or Democrat for two decades?

You know we might even be friends if you could have found
a way to offer a little support and goodwill to those of
us fighting the good fight, the uphill battle. Instead
you join those who paint all of us with the same broad
brush. Don’t need that crap.

You are obsessed with some past thread that you evidently remember, but I don’t know you or care about you or some past disagreement you feel we had, you have to quit doing that, FR doesn’t want to you to create a personal grudge and carry it with you throughout FR and keep referencing it like you are on this thread.

I know that I haven’t said what you claim, about California having “always leaned Democrat”, I’m glad that you agree that California has only been fully democrat for a couple of decades, and my point was that this downhill slide into liberal hell will only get more so, you can’t expect to see the full effect so soon, my post 32 was completely relevant to the exchange and this thread, and you need to quit freaking out when conservatives don’t agree with you, and you need to quit thinking that you have “tangled” with posters who have the most common and honest view of California.

I do know a lot about California, that seems to put you in the position of having to attack me personally rather than use facts.

Conservatives know that California is a liberal dead end, and will never become anything else, it’s future is sealed, it is the feather in the left’s electoral college cap, the question is why you take it so personally?

Conservatives and liberals both know who owns the California vote and government.

And, you are obsessed with me.

You completely blow-off my explanation of the reason I
responded to Da Coyote. But, then, that is the only way
you can get away with claiming that your response to my
post is somehow relevant to my point about the importance
of California agriculture.

You want to reconstruct this discussion because you cannot
defend your irrelevant response regarding my post. Sorry,
that is part my fault because I gave you too much info
to respond to. Is it not OK for me to defend California
against charges of impending Third World stature by
pointing out the state’s ag prowess? That was my post but
it was certainly not your response

You may know a lot about California but I know one hell
of a lot more. And, I will tell you that California is
not necessarily lost for good.

I never “claimed” that you stated that California always
leaned Democrat. I stated that your posts “indicated”
that you believed as much. While some of what you and
some others believe about California rings somewhat true
there is plenty of myth perpetrated by the liberal media
and plenty of FReepers buy it. What I take personally is
foolish statements by people who should know better.

What you NEED to do is to quit playing the ‘separate the
conservatives’ game. You NEED to start supporting
California conservatives and FReepers. You NEED to
quit being Debby Downer when it comes to California.
Did you not see what the people of Murrieta did when
the busloads of illegal aliens came to town?

Freaking out, indeed.

Look at your posts, you are obsessed with me, and can’t forget some long forgotten thread.

I can tell you that you are going to have to learn to accept conservatives talking negatively about the hard left state of California, the flagship state of the left.

I live here and many freepers live here, I have family here, my brother was born here, JR lives here my parents lived here at one time, but it has nothing to do with whether California is a disaster and a liberal state.

You can’t declare war on every conservative that tells it like it is for California. California will always be a state to be mocked by conservatives.

That doesn’t seem reasonable to me that pot farming would consume more water than one of America’s largest metropolitan areas. Bath, toilet, cooking, laundering, showering, etc. per millions of people per day.

Sounds like bogus numbers to me. I’m open to correction, but it doesn’t ring true.

I’m sitting here in the corn belt and we don’t put a drop of water on crops. I start conjuring up irrigation systems, massive water costs, manpower, fertilizer, fuel, equipment, and it’s really hard for me to believe that such a crop could be profitably brought to market.

A Marijuana plant probably needs at most a gallon of water a day (they all use drip systems these days) so just flushing their toilets once a day, the city of San Francisco would use a million gallons of water a day which would support a million pot plants. That alone is more marijuana than would be consumed by every pot smoker in America.

Somehow the numbers just don’t add up. These must be the same statisticians that brought us the global warming fraud.
