There are breaking reports that Andrei Lysenko, the spokesman for the Ukrainian National Security and Defence Council (SNBO) has told reporters at a briefing just now that the two Ukrainian Air Force Su-25s shot down today were hit by missiles fired from Russian territory.

Kirit Radia ✔ @KiritRadia: Ukrainian military jets shot down today were fired upon from the RUSSIAN side of the border, Ukrainian official says now at briefing 9:28 AM - 23 Jul 2014

Kirit Radia ✔ @KiritRadia: More: Ukraine says shots that brought down military planes today were from a “very powerful anti-aircraft system” the rebels don’t possess

More details to come.

This isn't the first time this has happened. The Ukrainians, before the airline shootdown, said one of their SU-25s was shot down by a Russian jet. That is why Obama, when describing the shootdown of previous planes by separatists, said "and they claim to have shot down a Ukrainian jet." It's because Obama was too chicken to say that the claim was false.

SU-25s don’t fly straight and level at 33,000 ft squaking a civilian airliner code.

Since these aircraft were produced in Russia, would it be too far out there to suggest maybe some sort of homing device hidden within aircraft ? Sort of an ID? GPS?

Kinda, it was designed to do ground support, as was the A-10, but the A-10 did ground support much better. Sadly the A-10’s have been retired so I guess that makes the Su-25’s the best ground support plane flying today.

More about this coming out now, via Twitter.

Kiev used 4 SU-25’s in a desperate attempt to save some of the trapped South Pocket units, and lost two of them, apparently. There are also reports that a helicopter went down near Lysyschansk.

If true, this supports other reports that the trapped 79th Brigade has been “Wiped out” today.

A rebel-controlled border post along the Southeast border also fell today, Chervona Zorya. That is very near the “Cease-fire Zone” around the downed Malaysian plane.
