What if Mitch McConnell loses?

It’s a taboo subject among Senate Republicans but one that’s on many senators’ minds: What if Mitch McConnell loses his reelection bid?

There appears to be no clear answer to that question, at least not right now.

In interviews and private conversations with more than half of the 45-member Senate Republican Conference, there is a split over a potential McConnell successor. His top deputy, John Cornyn of Texas, is favored to succeed him, several GOP senators said. But others ranging from John Thune of South Dakota to Tennessee’s Lamar Alexander — or a dark horse — are among those who could get serious consideration in the event of a leadership vacancy.

Cornyn’s ascension to the top spot is hardly a lock. A McConnell loss would mean Republicans would most likely still be in the Senate minority, and some GOP senators would be looking for a fresh face to pull the party out of the political wilderness, set policy priorities and drive the national message.

It may be taboo in the Senate but not here. We advocate for Mitch's defeat!

But there must be internal polling that's not looking good for these stories to be popping up.

I find it hard to believe that McConnell’s success in getting near 4 billion dollars for Kentucky in the last go-round on budget schemes isn’t going to pan out for him.

I detest him, but I think Politico is just fanning fires that don’t burn

Frankly I could live with a few one-term Dems if the result is sending some GOPe RINOS to the showers.

“What if Mitch McConnell Loses?”
***************************************************************************************

There will be rejoicing by the Tea Party and Constitutional Conservatives with whom McConnell decided to “war”.

And in the RINO quarters there will be “wailing and gnashing of teeth”.

Better than Reid, Durbin, and Schumer.

Suck it up and do the right thing. I hold my nose each and every election.

The top tier of Republican “leaders” [that is, by seniority and not demonstrated leadership] is enough to gag a maggot. If McConnell is defeated, there will be a fight between the old RINO dinosaurs over Mitch McConnell’s slot as the Head RINO. It won’t matter if the Stupid Party reclaims the Senate majority or not. The Stupid Party will remain timid and stupid.

It is absolutely in the best interest of the nation for Mitch McConnell to lose.

He deliberately went to war with the only organization which is interested and perhaps capable of effecting positive change in this nation and a scaling back of government, so in order to advance this cause, the man needs to be defeated.

Perhaps the lesson will get to the others.

I held my nose and voted for Romney in 2012, and ended up with this:

No mas.

Grimes won’t be a single termer if she gets in. KY may be a Red state in national politics, but it’s very much a purple state in other respects with a very strong and well established Democrat machine.

Grimes is a product of that machine, has a pedigree in Dem politics going back at least two generations (her Dad, iirc, was the longtime boss of the KY Dem Party, which is why she uses her maiden name so conspicuously.)

If KY Conservatives want to stay home in November, fine. If they want to go out and vote for Grimes, fine. But they really need to be fully aware of what they’re getting in return. She lands the seat and it’s hers until she doesn’t want it anymore.

What are the chances she holds the seat for 30 years, like Mitch?
