Editorial: Perry's plan to add troops to border won't ease this crisis
Dallas Morning News ^ | July 21, 2014 | Editorial

Gov. Rick Perry’s plan to activate 1,000 Texas National Guard troops for duty near the border with Mexico will do little to ease the crisis caused by the arrival of 57,000 unaccompanied minors from Central America.

More significant to addressing the problem is enlisting the governments of Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala to better enforce their own borders and discourage adults and children from attempting the dangerous trip northward.

No show of force can stop them from crossing. Once they’re here, U.S. law requires that they enter a legal process intended to ensure they’re protected from predators in their home countries.

The plan Perry offers is certainly a show — not of force but of political theater. What this situation requires are scores more immigration-court judges and facilities to house and feed the young migrants, not soldiers near the border.

Amen. Repel the invaders! Anything less is b/s.

Exactly. It's political show by a man who discovered last time around that his pro-ILLEGAL alien positions won't earn him the Republican nomination.

Am I correct in assuming the Dallas Morning News is a liberal newspaper?

Maybe the overall crisis won’t be eased, but there is a very good chance a major interception of the runners sprinting over the bridge at the checkpoint will be stopped. Right now, the jet skis and the small boats that are ferrying so many across, are employing a tactic to draw the border guards AWAY from the checkpoint, and thus allow a LOT of unchecked traffic to simply stream in across the bridge - the coyotes throw a child, or another who has limited swimming ability, over into the water, and the Border Patrol goes all out to retrieve the potential drowning victim. This is done in such profusion that the Border Patrol people are fully engaged, then as they try to approach shore again, the crypto-members of MS-13 begin pelting them with rocks. This definitely delays their return to the posts on the bridge, at which time, the runners are signaled to cease making the sprint, and this way untold numbers are spirited over the bridge.

Which most likely includes a great deal of contraband and some very dangerous characters, not all of whom are “unaccompanied children”.

It’s refreshing to see a Texan not 100% in the tank for La Raza Rick. It seems his supporters will defend just about anything the man says or does, save for my tagline. They won’t touch it. :-P

Why do conservatives buy any metro paper in Texas? There are none worth the paper they’re printed on.

No doubt the Leftists at the Democrat Morning Snooze support the judge who invited thousands of these diseased illegals to come to Dallas with no input from the taxpayers who will foot the.bills.

True. Obama's "Family Interest Directive" and "Dream Act". Unfortunately.

What this situation requires are scores more immigration-court judges and facilities to house and feed the young migrants....

False. What is required is for Congress to overrule Obama. But I won't hold my breath on that one.

Time will tell. He’s at least stuck his neck out (I agree, late...and may be too little), but his future aspirations/reputation are on the line.

What has Gov Brewer or Martinez set up to do about it? Just curious, I’ve not seen/heard anything.

Maybe. But what would do now or what would you have done say a year ago?

There are multiple tangents to this border situation. Illegal immigrants and
drugs being two of the major ones. I read this call up being more in line with
the drug side than I do with the illegals coming in. We’ll see.

Obama is beyond being embarrassed. He will only exacerbate the situation to meet his aims. Perry’s deployment of a reinforced battalion of Guard troops is so much political theater. Short of the Guard and Militia rounding up illegals and either deporting them by force or shooting them as they cross the Rio Grande, it’s just another Ground Hog Day. Illegals will still pour over, get “processed” and placed in some holding area, Anywhere, USA- courtesy of Obama.

For anyone foolish enough to believe La Raza Rick Perry actually opposes this invasion of ILLEGAL "children" I offer this gem from none other than the governor himself:

“To punish these young Texans for their parents` actions is not what America has always been about.” ~Texas Governor, Rick Perry

That’s right, La Raza Rick Perry called ILLEGAL alien children “Texans”. There is no convincing evidence anywhere that he doesn't believe that way still.
