Benjamin Netanyahu Had to Tell John Kerry "This is Not Vietnam"
Reason ^ | July 21 2014 | Ed Krayewski

The New Republic has a longish piece on how John Kerry got the latest iteration of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process restarted and how it fell apart around him. It involved a lot of talking and self-importance on all sides. The article includes a lot of reporting on the details of conversations between John Kerry and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and other Israeli and Palestinian officials. Among the reported conversations is this one that started about Palestinian incitement:

Kerry pressed on: "When I fought in Vietnam, I used to look at the faces of the local population and the looks they gave us. I'll never forget it. It gave me clarity that we saw the situation in completely different ways."

"This isn't Vietnam!" Netanyahu shouted. "No one understands Israel but Israel."

Kerry tried explaining himself again: "No one is saying it's Vietnam. But I've been coming here for thirty years, and I'm telling you, what's building up in the Palestinians has only gotten worse. I've seen it. It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong; it just is. It can't be solved if you can't see it how they see it."

Netanyahu is a serious man. He has little patience or tolerance for a petulant narcissist like Kerry or Obama.

Who's being petulant here? And with these three narcissism is more of a relative term. They all have massive egos.

If the Palestinians/Arabs “blow” at once...I don’t see how the State of Israel survives.

What I see is Ezekiel 39.

But the way the Palestinians see it, all Israelis would be dead. How does Kerry propose that PM Netanyahu square that circle?

Thats why Jimmy Carter pardoned all of the deserters and protesters in 1978 so it would be off Kerrys official record.

I think even a civilian would be guilty of treason to attempt to negotiate with the enemy on their own.

Well, that would make sense to John Kerry. Don’t forget it was his party that threw South Vietnam and Cambodia to the wolves.

"get to some serious negotiations about the future"

How many times must we go around this vicious circle?

Peace does not come from negotiation. Peace comes from victory.

That's like saying "you can't arrest or try Ted Bundy unless you understand why he killed young women."

“True enough. But then neither does BiBi like or appreciate being reminded of civilian Palestinian deaths.”

When a coward picks a fight and then hides under his sister's skirt, the sister may well become collateral damage in the ensuing fight.

like or appreciate being reminded of civilian Palestinian deaths.

Pray tell, what civilian deaths?

Those 4 or 500?

Given the never-ending rocket attacks by the Philistines, they're not even worth mentioning.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu actually shouted at Kerry?

By God, it’s about time.

Those Philistines are given fair warning yet they voluntarily live amongst and support those doing harm and inciting violence on neighbors that only wanted peace. Shoot rockets at me and my neighbors daily and I’ll want your type gone, all of you...edited.

“Kerry met with representatives from “both delegations” (North Vietnam and the Viet Cong) of the Vietnamese in Paris in 1970”

As you said, he met with both sides. What’s your problem? I’ll bet you did’t know he has three silver stars and a purple heart? You couldn’t a VC anywhere near the Mekong when Kerry was terrorizing Charlie. They wouldn’t even go at the point of a bayonet. They all thanked Budda when he got a purple heart for a shell fragment in his eye that finally sent him home. Granted it was an egg shell fragment from cracking a soft boiled egg, but a shell fragment nethertheless.

Israel is not the USA and BiBi is not running a war for profit exercise! Kerry never stood with the USA and the Veterans in his war for Political status! The man or Man child should not hold the office he has who tries to BS his way through! Oh well Monkey see Monkey do! Follow Thy Leader!

I think the 8th airforce dispatched a lot of children in Berlin.

And this has what to do with the IDF in Gaza or the Prime Minister's promises/assurances?

Thanks.

Giving aid and comfort to the enemy is enough. Kerry gave the North Vietnamese & VC an invaluable gift—hope. Hope that the American people would turn against the war before the commies ran out of steam, bodies, and materiel.

Oddly, it never occurred to me before that Kerry had high-up help in those “negotiations” long before he testified in the Senate (Apr. ‘71). Teddy’d already tried and failed; and Fullbright (decidedly NOT from Massachusetts but part of the party undermining the war) introduces him to the Senate and the public. Why else would the communists have taken anything JFK said seriously? They had to know that the majority of the country WAS NOT in give-up mode (as proved by Nixon’s landslide in ‘72 and American response to his mining Haiphong Harbor & resumed B-52 strikes). But a soldier with friendly connections and resulting U. S. Congressional “hearings”? Why NOT let this apparent nobody spread the commie manifesto? Kerry was the perfect deniable emissary, immune-in-advance to charges of and persecution for treason.
