Honduras President: The US War On Drugs Caused The Migrant Crisis

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Honduran President Juan Hernandez blamed U.S. drug policy for sparking violence in Central American countries and driving a surge of migration to the United States, according to an interview published on Monday.

Hernandez, who took office in January after winning on a pledge to be tough on crime, said only a drop in violence would curb the wave of families and unaccompanied minors fleeing Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras who have overwhelmed temporary detention facilities on the U.S. border.

"Honduras has been living in an emergency for a decade," Hernandez told Mexican daily newspaper Excelsior. "The root cause is that the United States and Colombia carried out big operations in the fight against drugs. Then Mexico did it."

They can’t make it in a world where drugs are illegal.

NMo. It didn’t cause it but it did exacerbate it.

Idiot.
When your stupid country becomes a democracy, where the individual’s rights count, and law enforcement keeps crime to a minimum, and police are not corrupt, and you encourage people to produce things and enjoy the fruits of their labor, no one will want to come to the USA.
Meanwhile, your basket case country unloads its problems on us.

In the early 70’s we had a foreign student living with us from Honduras and she described it exactly as you say. Her family, of course, was in that 1%.

What he really means is that the US and Mexico have to some measure been successful against the drug cartels, which have been pushed into his country, where there appears to be no organized resistance to them.

Yup, we spent millions to squeeze the balloon. No detectable change in the availability of drugs in the USA.

No detectable change in the availability of drugs in the USA.

Nor in the demand for said drugs.

I spent time in the outlands of a couple Central American countries in the 80’s and they made rural Carolinas and West Virginia look like the suburbs.

Could it be that his government is incredibly corrupt and answers only to those with huge piles of money?

That the light-skinned Spanish descendants have treated the darker indigenous tribes like dirt for hundreds of years is not the fault of the USA.
We should have cut all aid to these parasites a century ago, forcing the peons to revolt against their oppressors in order to survive.

Instead, we prop up these corrupt governments and they send us their poor, illiterate surplus population...and both groups hate our guts, blaming us for their problems. Americans are sick of this abuse.

Exactly. Mexico isn't much different than Apartheid-era South Africa in that regard.
