Not even MH17 will stop Putin's goal of new Soviet Union

THE tragedy of MH17 will do nothing to stop Putin in his plans to re-establish a new Soviet Union. This was a tragic accident for him but his ambitions extend beyond Ukraine and this will not stop that.

The world now knows he is involved with separatists connected to the deaths of hundreds of innocent people. I think Putin will understand there is no going back now and he will make his move.

Ukraine is only the first stage; it is the beginning of a wider campaign to increase Russia's strength. He will move to other countries, such as Moldova and Belorussia, where there is a strong Russian population.

This will become a European war if the West does not do more to stop it. The deaths of foreign civilians make this a European war already. Europe relies on Russia for oil and gas and Great Britain relies on it for money, but that is where they have to hit. If you watch Russian TV it is extremely anti-Ukrainian, they are showing a completely different picture.

The Russian people are being fed opposing information. They are happy to see themselves as a powerful state again, but not if it becomes expensive.

Europe should cancel visas for Russians who are members of parties that supported the annexation of Crimea, for example. It should stop Russian airlines flying over Europe or Russians from visiting the UK.

It should tell the wives of powerful people that they cannot travel to London to shop any more.

This is how you get them, you have to make it personal and there are ways of doing that. Europe should hit the rouble and hit the stock market. Cut the country off from the rest of the continent, and then Russians who rely on Europe for business will question what Putin is doing.

This is not a problem anybody wants to deal with, but the murder of the passengers on that plane means everyone has to. It is not economic any more, it is a political power struggle. If Europe does not demonstrate to Putin now that it is taking it seriously then the problem will escalate and we will have the costs of war to worry about, not just the economy.

Putin will not stop until others stop him.

Putin’s foremost a businessman in today’s Russia and on an International Scale....companies know he’s ready , and has been, to do business.

Recent Economic summit showed corporations are and will continue to do business with Putin. And interesting listening to EU businessmen stating they will go in their own direction regarding business with Russia and Putin.

Companies who have stated they won’t do business are those being strong-armed by the US Administration.....and even they are looking for means and ways to loosen the leverage being used.

The author is naive. Putin doesn’t want the old CCCP.

Nope.

Putin is a modern csarist. Putin wants to flip Germany to his side and break up NATO. He wants to leave bankrupt Greece and Spain on their own, or better still let them drag down France once Germany has left the EU.

...”If they supposedly are through with communism, why do they support these communist regimes?”....

Doesn’t matter what position they hold when it comes to trade and doing international business. .....Ideologies etc only matter for political leverage in their game, but bottom line will always be the purse.

People would do well to recognize that nations citizens are simply pawns on their game table....nation leaders will feed them emotionally to their advantage...or deny them.

What about business with China ? They never stopped being Communist.

Weird. If Communism is actually an enemy, making them your biggest trading partner seems a bit stupid.

In fact, so stupid, that there’s no way it was done out of stupidity. The financial elites of America didn’t get to be billionaires by being that stupid.

Meanwhile, the “Chicoms” have gained an economic and technological boost of enormous proportions due specifically to trade with the US, which the door was opened to back in the early 1970’s.

Gee, all during the “cold war”, our financial elites were building business and trade with “communist” China.

I feel stabbed in the back; doesn’t everybody else in America also feel this way ?

Putin knows he has to play to the new generation and the old population as he brings his nation along from it’s fall. So he’s simply being a statesman in his approach to satisfy all......it’s something he knows he has to ‘balance’ as the people adjust to the new Russia of today.

Unlike Obama who has shoved his “Hope and change” down everyones throat...like it or not. He’s a terrible politician let alone any resemblance to a Pres.

We have zero tanks left in Europe. That’s right, not even one.

Well we have been stabbed in the back as it’s all moved to the Eastern Hemisphere. That’s just the reality of where things are happening.

Russia and China’s partnering in trade is simply “business”...not political so much, though it’s given some consideration regarding both those nations are ramping it up to be top dogs with International clout..and that in ‘all’ respects.......but neither Russia nor China are “friends”...they know it.

Putin doesn't want the USSR back. He knows Communism doesn't work. Putin isn't a neo-Soviet. Putin is a neo-Tsarist

I'm not getting anything from this thread about Communism or a Russian return to it.

To make a point, Communism, or whatever is not what is important here. The US would be Communist if that is what it took for a politician to get elected. That is not the case in Russia any longer but what is the case is that the people desire a Authoritarian that makes them feel proud to be Russian.

It's that simple really.

Nothing new for Russia and it's along the same trajectory as the reemergence of the Third Reich. I don't see a lot of difference at all. I see that it's what he perceives as the desire of the people he leads.

Where it takes him and Russia from this point onward, is not a hazy forecast, it's obvious!

He wants and his people want the old Soviet Union footprint back in play, just like it was. But not Communist. The Ideology has shifted after the failures. They don't know exactly what they want, but they want Putin to lead it. The Ideology is only important if it becomes a desire of his people and right now it is not on the table. They are happy with Putin's Authoritarian Regime, and will be happy until they want something else.

In this way, what is happening in Russia is no different then what happened in Germany in the 30s..It's a nationalism based reformation with a expansionist agenda.

This time they have Oil and no Ideology garbage to get in their way. Putin does not need Communism to achieve public support. He has it without it.

Thank you..very good post... you’ve really made the right point regarding Putin and the majority of the Russian people.

Too many people fail to distinguish what’s apparent because they cannot let loose of the cold war mentality....even Putin knows he has to balance between the old Russia population and the new. And he intends to bring them all along with him. So far he’s accomplishing just that.

The Russian people want a leader they can be proud of...he’s given that to them and they are quite willing to overlook any flaws along the way as he’s clearly brought them out of the depths of despair they were in.

Thank you again for your post....it’s refreshing given too many here are carrying the Obama agenda regarding Russia...and in lockstep with the MSM he’s using to take Russia out of it’s relationship with the European community.

Thanks for the good words, but it’s easy for me to see through the baloney.

The old creeping Communism threat is far too worn out for it to work very well with me. I know too much history and I’m too old to fall for it anymore.

Most people are unaware that without the US assistance during WWII as a result of a unceasing desire to assist the Chinese in fighting of Japan, the Chinese communist followers of Mao may not have achieved the credibility necessary to have fought off, killed and exiled the nationalists. He was only a low class communist with a following of farmers before the US diverted aid meant for Chang Kai Chek to Mao and made him a force to be reckoned with. Chang’s organization was pretty corrupt, but there were other ways to fix it.

We did the same with the Communists in France, and other Western and Eastern Europe Countries and peoples. Both Truman and Roosevelt. In the end it strengthened their credibility and made it possible for them to grow like a weed. As did the Communist Serbs after the breakup of Yugoslavia.

We did not turn against them until after the war and Eisenhower was elected. In the case of the Serbs, we obviously abandoned them as well.

You just can’t make this stuff up. If it was not history, I would not have believed it, but it’s true.

Internationally we have always had relationships with communists and do today with China and Vietnam, as examples. So I don’t really consider Communism in other countries to rise to the level of importance as I do when they are screwing about in my own country as they have for decades now.

However I refuse to project a domestic problem on a foreign country and make it the basis of what is a tactical argument or analysis as in the case of Russia.

I view old foreign interventionist arguments to “act or allow the spread of communism” as propaganda. But to fight it here is another matter entirely.

So it’s not about communism, regarding Russia. It’s about trying to use our strengths to counter a growing threat that will certainly affect the rest of Eastern Europe and eventually spill over into Western Europe when Putin tries a do-over in Poland and Germany and attempts to regain what Russia views as their rightful territorial gains after WWII.

I would like to see us get it right for once as to when it’s necessary to do some sort of intervention, small or large scale. or just a proxy fight as the case or cases merits.

of course, obama, RINOs and the like of Bill Gates plan on not turning illegals to take back their original countries from socialism, thus rendering the Berlin Wall unnecessary for Russians, so to speak, making us lose the Cold War we won, courtesy of liberals, Vietnam and Iraq abandon style.
