Russia brushes off worldwide criticism over Malaysia Airlines tragedy

Russiabrushed off international criticism on Friday to throw blame for the MH17 plane crash back on Ukraine and the West.

Worldwide opprobrium was poured on to the Kremlin for supporting separatist rebels, who stand accused of sending down the Malyasia Airlines jet.

But Moscow denied any ties to the attack, claiming it was the victim of a political vendetta.

Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, accused Washington of a “criminal decision” to back Petro Poroshenko, Ukraine’s president, in waging war against pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine. “Frankly speaking, I believe that this disaster will sober up those who have very clearly placed their bets on a war,” he said.

President Vladimir Putin called for an immediate ceasefire and an “objective international investigation” into the causes of the crash, after having said on Thursday that Ukraine was to blame because the tragedy happened on its territory.

At the UN, Russian ambassador Vitaly Chirkin ignored US accusations that Russian helped launch the surface-to-air missile that brought down the passenger jet.

He said that any investigation should probe whether Ukrainian aviation authorities had correctly fulfilled their duties.

“Why did Ukrainian air traffic controllers send a passenger aircraft into a zone where aviation has been consistently used for airstrikes, including on civilian targets, and where – for that reason – anti-aircraft defence batteries were in use?” he asked.

Many Russian media outlets backed the sceptical line. The Izvestiya daily said “Ukraine’s authorities have rushed to make political dividends out of the tragedy, blaming the Donetsk militias for the downing of the aircraft”, while Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper quoted Andrei Borodin, a military expert, as saying the “terror attack” was most likely organised by “those to whom it was absolutely necessary to blame Russia or the southeast [Ukrainian] militiamen for this crime”.

Why not? What is anyone going to do about it?

This story will have a shelf-life of about 5 days, and we are on day 2.

Obama is clearly not interested already.

Yep, a big portion of Europe depends on Russia for gas and oil. Not much is going to happen. Obama is going to be off to Martha’s Vinyard for a much needed rest after going to all those fund raisers. A man has to have priorities.

Is anyone asking if the Malaysian Airlines 777 that disappeared a few months ago was also flying in questionable areas in order to save fuel?

This is the new normal.

Know who set the “precedent”? Obama

His massive collateral damage with indiscriminate drone strikes in Pakistan and elsewhere has caused untolled death and destruction of innocents, including US citizens.

The USA is a bull in the china shop in the world.

Much worse image now than ever under past presidents. Truly ugly American Obama is.

Putin's real problem is in Russia. The young folks there are sick of being governed by all the crooked, half-witted thugs that kill each other for power in Russia. And, at the top of rubble is Putin the Incompetent.

Just visit Russia and see for yourself. Talk to some of the younger Russians who would like to see their country grow and prosper. They know and will tell you that Putin is a thug and an idiot. Putin is responsible for one disastrous mistake after another.

Take the time to notice how poorly the Russian economy functions.

According to Gallup, Putin is much more popular (in Russia) than Obama was in the US when people still believed he could heal the sick, raise the dead and walk on water.

Gallup Poll: Putin Approval

Not that people would be afraid of pollsters in Russia, since Putin’s opponents have a way of becoming dead or in prison.

“Why did Ukrainian air traffic controllers send a passenger aircraft into a zone where aviation has been consistently used for airstrikes, including on civilian targets, and where – for that reason – anti-aircraft defence batteries were in use?” he asked.”

That right there tells you that Russia did shoot down the airliner.

That they move to assigning blame on air traffic controls and not whoever pulled the trigger is a clea demonstration of their complicity.

Admit it Vladimir, your guys screwed up.

That’s a pretty ugly statement. Obama is the worse Resident ever, but....
“The USA is a bull in the china shop in the world.” is asinine.

I’ve been in 27 countries, and America is anything but ugly.

Might be worth investigating the methodology of those opinion polls about Putin ...

“Comrade, the officers are here to inquire about your support for our heroic President. Where do you stand?”

“Umm, mark me down as very satisfied and then untie my wife.”

"Truly ugly American Obama is."

But you know, a lot of us in America don't consider Obama as a legitimate, legal American citizen much less a POTUS who is Constitutionally occupying the office of President of the USA.
