At least one American citizen was among the nearly 300 innocent people killed when a Malaysia Airlines jet was shot down over Ukraine, President Obama announced Friday, calling the incident a "global tragedy."
"An Asian airline was destroyed in European skies filled with citizens from many countries," Mr. Obama said from the White House briefing room. "I think that this certainly will be a wake-up call for Europe and the world that there are consequences to an escalating conflict in Eastern Ukraine, that it is not going to be localized, it is not going to be contained."
The death of more than 100 Dutch citizens "sadly brings home the degree to which the stakes are high for Europe, not simply for the Ukrainian people," Mr. Obama continued, "And that we have to be firm in our resolve and making sure that we are supporting Ukraine in its efforts to bring about a just cease-fire and that we can move towards a political solution to this."

This problem can easily be solved. Don’t let your “loved ones” fly Malaysian Airlines. Just saw a piece on FNC about an Australian woman who lost family members on this flight AND the other flight that they still can’t find.
What about the 22 other Americans who were killed?
I saw that story, absolutely horrible..she lost her son and her step daughter..but they also had a story about a woman who should have been on board but for whatever reason missed her flight(She had her baby with her)
Obama just refuses to call anything a terrorist attack which is what this was..a tragedy is a plane crash due to mechanical failure..this plane was shot out of the sky
At least one? They know everything about each and every passenger before they are permitted to board the least of which is a passport. Wire services were reporting at least 23 Americans being on board yesterday. Since Urkel get’s his intel by watching tv news shows he should have known the number exactly.

Perhaps nit-picking considering the true tragedy involved, but this text typifies Obama's callous attitude where he is content to just read from the teleprompter without much investment in what he's saying – I don't think the skies were filled with residents of Europe… Most Presidents do utilize trained speechwriters, however most would probably be able to recognize when something doesn't make sense & and at least deliver the words with some passion.
