A Malaysian passenger airliner with 295 people on board crashed in Ukraine near the Russian border, Interfax cited an aviation industry source as saying on Thursday.

Well, one it was the shortest route, and that saves a ton of fuel, which to a financially strapped airline means a lot of cash kept, and two, up until today no one there was shooting down airliners, and three, many other airlines are flying over the Ukraine/Russia on a daily bases.

That's like admiring the leadership of a bank robber. Putin's not particularly capable or even particularly smart. Russians have a lower standard of living than Saudis, despite the fact that Russia has more mineral resources per capita. McCain is right - Russia is a gas station to the world. What Putin has going for him are (1) the resources of a mineral-rich country, (2) mindless aggression and (3) a world that, outside of the US, is mired in isolationism.

Air France says has decided to avoid airspace of Eastern Ukraine....I suspect others will also avoid.
Many of these separatists have been previously identified as Spetznas personnel. It's my feeling a great deal of them are Russian regulars operating with more than just tacit approval.

As another poster stated, you can say that Putin actually started his campaign back in 2008 with his incursion into Georgia. His intentions are evil alright, and will only end when the west decides to intervene.

Being retired Air Force, I used to cringe at the unofficial Army Antiaircraft motto “If it flies, it dies”. Usually followed up with, “Kill ‘em all, let God sort ‘em out.”
I never wanted to be flying over these guys in a war, that’s for sure!

The separatist general who has been claimed to take responsibility just said he didn’t do it and doesn’t have any BUKs.
CNN has in an article: “Terrorists” as shooting it down, I just point that out because most everyone is saying “Separatists”, bad bad story no matter who did it and I will wait for more details to come out. And pray for those poor souls and their families.
