He KNOWS this from history only, certainly not from memory (being born in 1956) AND he still got it wrong - they weren’t Jewish children. They were simply German Jewish refugees refused entry in Cuba and the U.S. but “children” has such a better zing to it, doesn’t it? Democrats all have aversions to speaking anything truthful.

If I remember my history correctly, the President of the US in 1939, who would have had the last word in turning away a ship full of refugees, was a guy named Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Further, if I remember my history correctly, Franklin D. Roosevelt was DemocRAT.
The Great Depression caused a shut down of immigration. The USA adopted a neutrality and isolationist stance towards European affairs. Laws were passed establishing quotas for immigrants, including Eastern Europeans, and certain individuals were banned, such as anarchists, the diseased, the criminal, and those with mental issues. Between half a million and two million Mexicans also were voluntarily or forceably deported during this time in order to protect American jobs. It was partly because of isolationist and self-preservation stances of the time that Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, joined the Cubans and Canadians in turning the ship of Jewish refugees away, not wanting to provoke Hitler into dragging America into the war they did not want a part of.

Israel has taken in more illegal and legal African and Middle Eastern immigrants and refugees (per capita) than any other state. Not many Sudanese or Ethiopians have ended up as refugees in Saudi Arabia (except as slaves), or Yemen, or Qatar, or Lebanon, or Syria, or Iraq or Iran.
