Health survey gives government its first large-scale data on gay, bisexual population

The National Health Interview Survey, which is the government’s premier tool for annually assessing Americans’ health and behaviors, found that 1.6 percent of adults self-identify as gay or lesbian, and 0.7 percent consider themselves bisexual.

They always inflate it to about 10% which is silly. 10% is a minority. 1% is freakish. If it's genetic, it could rarely be passed along anyway. I'm sure the gubmint has already inflated these numbers anyway, so we're probably not even looking at 1.6%. It's most likely MUCH less than 1%. They're just a very vocal (and dramatic) group. They get a lot of air-time.

The study asked for self-identification, probably the most useful criterion. The usual 2-4% range found in actual research is confirmed by this study. The old "10%" number was bogus, based on Alfred Kinsey's generally discredited writings.
