My 40th Anniversay is tonite: July 14, 1974. I was robbed and shot in West Palm Bch, FL, and survived. Long story. Some here have seen the x-ray of the .32cal bullet, which I still carry:

Impeachment proceedings ARE justified but if we can’t convict we look like idiots.

The other problem beyond failure to convict is the backlash from those who get their information only from the LameStreamMedia. As we saw in Clinton’s impeachment, the country, despite overwhelming initial disgust with the guy, failed to understand the long impeachment process, was propagandized, lost patience with the effort’s complexity and timescale and was probably about like the Senate, not ready to move with conviction.
A Senate is now a political weather vane, not the cooling saucer of a senior chamber that it was envisioned to be. Even with a Republican majority we won’t get there — they are placeholder pols.
Look what non-conviction did to elevate Bubba’s “status”... I don’t think the senate will ever convict a lib-dem, even if he committed murder on the WH front lawn.
