Why Jimmy Carter Is Smiling Right Now
Powerline ^ | JULY 11, 2014 | STEVEN HAYWARD

During those wonderful decades when the great Chick Hearn called LA Lakers basketball games, whenever the Lakers had a game in the bag in the 4th quarter, Chick would let fly with favorite formula: “This game’s in the refrigerator: the door is closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling, the butter’s getting hard, and the Jell-O’s jigglin’!”

You can start saying that about Obama’s presidency. Or, if you like, you can note that he’s passed Jimmy Carter territory. I recall Henry Kissinger’s pithy summation of Carter’s foreign policy:

“The Carter administration has managed the extraordinary feat of having, at one and the same time, the worst relations with our allies, the worst relations with our adversaries, and the most serious upheavals in the developing world since the end of the Second World War.”

At least Carter looked like he cared, and even changed course in some visible ways.

Hope our European allies who swooned before Obama back in 2008 are liking how this came out. I was in Germany right after the 2008 election, and practically every shopkeeper and bartender I encountered, when recognizing I’m an American, declared how overjoyed they were about Obama’s election. Love to check in with them now.

But you can close the refrigerator door on this presidency. Hopefully the country won’t suffer a permanent chill before we can thaw out. The worst part of this is that Jimmy Carter will have a real reason to smile: he’s no longer the worst ever.

Now that’s a stretch! But, “ in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.”

Having lived through both administrations, it is true: Carter was bad, but Obama is horrid.

Consider: Carter had a couple of successes: he negotiated peace between Egypt and Israel, and under his administration, the federal government began to dismantle Ma Bell’s monopoly over telecommunications and de-regulated the airline industry—opening up the skies to make flying more affordable and competitive.

Carter was in most other cases an abject failure—he refused to back our friend in Iran, he had no clue on how to encourage domestic production of oil and unemployment and inflation soared...he also depressed most of America with his ineptitude.

Obama, amazingly, is worse. Consider this: if he didn’t garner, according to Gallup, 86% support from blacks, his job approval would be in the low 30s right now.

He is worse than Carter, worse than Johnson, worse than Buchanan.

All of those men had big problems...but all of them loved America.

Not BO. He is delighted to see America suffer. Just like his mentor, Frank Marshall Davis.

The only reason Jimmah is smiling is because he’s
got on a clean diaper...

And no matter how bad it was in the White House back then, Americans had at least our values to fall back on. The nation wasn’t as connected, and the cultural rot in NYC or L.A. didn’t infect the rest of the nation so easily, like it has obviously done today. Americans today dont want their families to be like the Waltons or Little House on the Prairie, they want to act like some dysfunctional mess they see on some “trendy” show on HBO.

Carter was nowhere near as crazy as Obama (the guy taught Sunday school for crying out loud). And thanks to Watergate, the rest of the federal apparatus wasn’t keen to be used as a tool against us, unlike the loons running the place today.

I can totally trade 2014 for 1978.

I wonder if we will ever know why Obama is such a terrible president. Is it ineptness or is he trying to screw things up. I’m reminded of the scorched earth policy used in Iraq. It seems like he is a combination of a scorched earther while playing the part of Baghdad Bob in front of the blind liberals who follow him.

He’s smiling because he’s no longer the worst president ever, AND the caliphate is rising in the M.E.

Surpassing Jimmy Carter?

Obama has surpassed Nero and has Caligula firmly in his sight with over two years left in his Presidency. At the rate Obama is going he should blow past Caligula by October of the is year.

By the end of the year, he should be pressing on to a commanding lead as worst political leader of all time.

Who says this guy is not historic - he sure is making history.

And we elected him

.......Jimmah is George Washington compared to Obama...............

I wouldn't go that far, but at least when he was POTUS he loved his country, at least tried (rather poorly) and was engaged most of the time...

Obama is in for the trappings and bling...

Being POTUS is WAY too hard, I mean you have to actually work everyday and work with people even if it's difficult and you don't get your way and throw a temper tantrum...

He's our version of a boy-king

Plus I’ll say this for President Carter, at least he tried to rescue the hostages in Iran, under Barky, people died in Bengazi with no help.

Obama may have already passed Caligula.

Caligula only talked about making his horse a consul. Obama actually made a horse's ass the Vice President.
