Todd Akin Not Sorry for Rape Comments After All
Newser ^ | July 10 2014 | Jenn Gidman

(Newser) – First Todd Akin said "legitimate rape" victims don’t get pregnant. Then the Missouri rep apologized for the rape comment in a commercial for his 2012 Senate run and the world moved on (but not before opponent Claire McCaskill soundly defeated him). Now he’s back with a new book and a new (old) outlook: that he was scientifically accurate in his initial assessment of rape, according to Politico. "My comment about a woman’s body shutting the pregnancy down was directed to the impact of stress of fertilization," he writes in Firing Back: Taking on the Party Bosses and Media Elite to Protect Our Faith and Freedom.

"This is something fertility doctors debate and discuss. Doubt me? Google 'stress and infertility,' and you will find a library of research on the subject." And he says apologizing for the initial comment is one of his few regrets: "By asking the public at large for forgiveness, I was validating the willful misinterpretation of what I had said." Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee penned the foreword to Akin's book, scheduled to hit shelves July 15, and calls out Republicans who "circled the wagons," according to Raw Story, "not to support Todd and help him overcome an obstacle but instead as a firing squad pointed at the congressman."

You’ve gotta be kidding me, right?

This heel needs to go away. He’s yapping his big, dumb mouth just in time so that the Dems can point to him and smear all Republicans with their derpy “war on wimminz!” bullsh*t.

Remember when the Senate was as good as ours in 2010? It was moments and idiots like this that effectively poisoned our chances that year.. and now, here we go again..

He’s probably got a defensible opinion here, but why bring it up now?

First Todd Akin said "legitimate rape" victims don’t get pregnant.

First Jenn Gidman writes a sentence more ill-informed than Todd Aikin.

I agree, he killed a lot more than his own career, which is REALLY all he cares about. But he just poured a big ol pile of wood on that fire... thanks Todd!

“”My comment about a woman’s body shutting the pregnancy down was directed to the impact of stress of fertilization,” he writes in Firing Back:...”

Why did he wait so long to present all this scientific evidence about stress being a proven method of contraception?

Akin is an example of how many congressmen aren’t ready for statewide or national office. They get elected in fiercely-partisan districts saying things nobody there thinks twice about. Then he recycles the formula that worked in his district while running for statewide (or nationwide) office and this falls flat. It’s not a question of executive experience - some of these candidates hold positions that will bring voters out of the woodwork to vote against them.

It was a stupid thing to say. However, a democrat wouldn’t be held to the same standard as him.

good. i’m glad he’s continuing to fight against the murder of the unborn, which was the main benefit of his campaign once the GOPe decided he wasn’t toeing romney’s line on abortion.

Akin was correct, if inarticulate, the first time about the effects of stress on conception, as many of us, who have experienced the problem, pointed out at the time. however, the GOPe and romney were determined to hamstring him anyway. this was just a convenient pretext for them.

I hope every one here eager to spit on Todd Akin is really pleased with not having taken that seat from Claire McCaskill. One statement that perhaps could have been worded better and you are too pleased to throw him under the bus. One statement. Wow. Karl Rove and the GOP-E thank you for providing the hammer to beat the Tea Party. Nice. Were I a Missouri voter, I'd have voted gladly for the reliable conservative voter that Akin is, to oust McCaskill. Gladly.

It never was that bad and nobody noticed it until Willard started screeching like the girl he is and blew it all out of proportion ..

Todd’s crime was not what he said..

Todd’s crime was being a pro-life Conservative when Willard wanted to run like a liberal Democrat and influenced the GOP to change their platform on abortion and banned any Conservative speakers...

Willard takes everything personal..

its always all about him...

just like his good buddy Obama...

Second that motion. Don't understand the continued hate of Akin here on this website for conservatives.

good. i’m glad he’s continuing to fight against the murder of the unborn, which was the main benefit of his campaign once the GOPe decided he wasn’t toeing romney’s line on abortion. The thing is, he has done as much to hurt the fight against abortion as any single person in the country. First by handing a solid red state senate seat to a pro abortion democrat. Second by validating the war on women in the eyes of many, and third by making pro lifers look like idiots. He might as well have been reading a script from James Carville..
