Todd Akin returns to national stage

Two years after the Missouri Republican’s comments on rape, pregnancy and abortion doomed his campaign and fueled a “war on women” message that carried Democrats to victory in the Senate, one of the few regrets he mentions in a new book is the decision to air a campaign ad apologizing for his remarks.

“By asking the public at large for forgiveness,” Akin writes, “I was validating the willful misinterpretation of what I had said.”

He’s an embarassment. Just go away and stay away.

“And yet, many Freepers fell for him.”

Ain’t that the truth!

I got called a RINO more times than I care to remember for speaking badly of Akin.

Between this, and Coulter’s call for McDaniel to give it up, I am thoroughly depressed now.

Coulter is a moronic dingbat that no conservative should listen to, least of all, McDaniel.

Ditto here. Unfortunately, there is a segment of Freep nation that looks upon it as a badge of honor to say or do the stupidest things, as long as you are defending a certain set of principles. They also were not smart enough to figure out that Akin WAS establishment, not Tea party. He only claimed to be TP after the primary - which was the strategy put together by one of Newt's top advisors….and as much as I supported Newt, it pains me to say this that he and his people were part of the Akin debacle.

Well I wouldn’t call her a moronic dingbat, but she is tone deaf on the issue of the GOP e versus the conservative base for sure.

I blame Huckabee.

Another man who doesn't know his limitations either.

He needs to vanish. The GOP needs to stop embracing stupid. That more than anything is hurting us.

People begged him to step down and let someone else run for the seat, and he refused, saying he was ahead in the polls. Dimwit didn’t realize the DEMs played him big time. His ego was on display. You are right - he isn’t ready for prime time, and its unfortunate - because that seat would have been an easy pickup for Republicans.

Is calling someone a egotist a typical liberal slam of the successful business man.

YOU RIGHT….Huckabee does deserve a lot of the blame - and no, doesn’t know his limitations either. AND he’s fooled a lot of Freepers in the past too.

It’s a flexible term with multiple uses.

;-)

In this case it’s used to describe a guy who screwed up so badly there was no way to recover and win, but who chose to continue (rather than do the right thing and drop out) because he was either egotisticallt delusional and thought he could win, or egotistically self-aggrandizing and wanted the attention (even if it was negative attention) associated with being a Senate candidate to continue.

What Akin said was true, he just didn’t say it well and then apologized for saying anything..

A violent event, physical or emotional CAN cause a woman’s body to flush out and dump a potential pregnancy. It doesn’t always but it can and does happen that way. I know.

You still don’t get it —

That Missouri vote was more a vote against the strong-arming GOPe, you know the same people committing vote fraud in Mississippi, than it was a vote for Akin.

That being said I vote for his full retirement and that he stay retired.

Coming out with this book at this time shows that he is a political doofus.

Yep. As I recall, he had about a two week window after that "gotcha" interview where he could have opted to run for his own congressional seat and let the woman who eventually won his seat run for the U.S. Senate seat.

Even though it was clear that he had mortally wounded himself with these dumb remarks and everybody else urged him to take this graceful exit, he refused.

The guy is a poster boy for dumbness. He probably cost the GOP not only the seat in Missouri, but those in Indiana, North Dakota and Montana as well.

Any married man knows how not to be trapped by his wife's inevitable "Honey, does this dress make me look fat?" question. Except Todd Akin.

Misinterpretation?

Pretty hard to misinterpret him. He said “I’m an idiot” pretty clearly. He just didn’t say it in those words.
