Did the New York Times Just Stumble Across an IRS Motive for Targeting the Tea Party?
redstate.com ^ | 7/8/14 | Matthew Clark

In its latest liberal rant coming to the aid of the IRS – that poor defenseless government leviathan – it repeats the same tired leftist talking points about the root of all the IRS’s problems being that it doesn’t have enough money.

Yet in doing so, it may have just stumbled across a new motive behind the targeting, good old-fashioned revenge.

He’s what the New York Times calls the “real scandal”:

There is a scandal going on at the Internal Revenue Service, but it has nothing to do with Lois Lerner or her missing emails. . . .

No, the real scandal is what Republicans did to cripple the agency when virtually no one was looking. Since the broad Tea Party-driven spending cuts of 2010, the agency’s budget has been cut by 14 percent after inflation is considered, leading to sharply reduced staff, less enforcement of the tax laws and poor taxpayer service. (Emphasis added.)

So according to the New York Times, the targeting of the Tea Party, which the IRS admitted was wrong and for which it faux-apologized, is a direct result of “the broad Tea Party-driven spending cuts of 2010.”

The Tea Party forced cuts to the IRS budget, and the IRS retaliated by shutting down the Tea Party. Is that it?

Far be it from me to question the "paper of record" (gag, spew, hock), but weren't DemocRATS still in charge of Da House (where tax policy other than ObamaDon'tCare originates) in 2010?

“...IRS retaliated by shutting down the Tea Party. Is that it?”

So now we have to apologize to Leviathan for hurting its feelings?

They’d like us to believe that, now wouldn’t they?

Ain’t gonna happen.

But LIVs will suck it up along with all the other BS they’re spewing...

They will do anything, ANYTHING, to displace the blame for this from the WHITE HOUSE to Lois Lerner and her ilk solely to protect Obama.

In effect, this is Lois Lerner being kneecapped, forcing a drop to the pavement so the bus can run over her.

I’ll bet she now is in fear for her life and will clam up like Susan MacDougal and take the prison time for not testifying (if it even gets to that).

You assume that a lie must be free of all truth.

That is not so for the Old Gray Whore. She can lie at will whenever the mood strikes. Ancient truth is irrelevant

You mean like when OweBowMao commanded his followers and IRS plants to “Vote for Revenge” just before the 2012 election?

Thee has never seen a govt agency that has enough money.

Agency managers will find ways to out spend their resources and build an empire that they will get promoted up in. It’s all about personnel enrichment, not being wise with the taxpayer resources.

Our system is broke when the beneficiaries get to vote and give themselves more. Only true taxpayers should have that say.

Well, it’s good to see them admit the IRS was targeting the TEA Party.

Funding issues may have been a motivation but lack of money was certainly not one, as Trey Gowdy points out

In a previous life, I worked for an quasi-agency of the county government. I got fired for reducing their dependence on taxpayer funding from one-third to one-sixth of the total budget while nearly doubling gross revenue.

While that wasn't their official excuse, it was the actual reason. They didn't like the idea of us moving toward a self-sustaining model.

I was young, foolish, idealistic, only 33 years old and honestly thought I was doing a good thing by consuming fewer taxpayer resources.

No, that’s not it. It was clearly part of a coordinated effort out of the WH to cripple the TP and assure Obama’s reelection.

The same I.R.S. that had no problems giving out bonuses? Nor the same that REGULARLY sends out ‘rebates’ to those whom never should see penny one (at times, multiple checks to the SAME address)? Maybe they should cut back get-aways and Star Trek parodies.

Finally, just how long does it take D.C. to blow through the ‘savings cuts’ (did I read they but $325M down to ~$10B/yr?)....2, maybe 3 hours?

For the Obama IRS to illegally punish and eliminate any entity that threatens its budget might be more corrupt than Obama using the IRS to stifle general political opponents. Does the NYT propose doing about this?
Or is this just a ploy to redirect attention back to the IRS, now that the role of the Justice Department as instigators is oozing out?

This is the same IRS that had NO problem sending multiple checks to the same address and money to “dependents” living in Mexico. Bet those never saw one penny cut from their rebates.
