Chicago's police superintendent lashed out at what he called lax state and federal gun laws after a violent Fourth of July weekend that saw more than 60 people shot and nine killed in a city already known for frequent shootings.
"There has to come a tipping point where this changes," Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Monday of the violence. "The illogical nature of what's happening here -- that government can intercede and prevent this from happening is overwhelming. And I refuse to think otherwise in a great country like America that we can continue to allow this to happen -- not just on a state, but on a federal level."
McCarthy said the violence unraveled a string of successes by police in suppressing gun violence this year. The city saw 21 shooting incidents on Sunday alone, he said, although three of them may have been self-inflicted.
"These offenders need to be held fully accountable for violent behavior to prevent them from ending up back on the street too soon," he said, adding, "There's too many guns coming in and too little punishment going out."

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says "The illogical nature of what's happening here -- that government can intercede and prevent this from happening is overwhelming." What's happening here according to Superintendent McCarthy is the federal & state governments are not passing gun control legislation which is illogical to him.
However, Chicago has passed an abundance of gun control laws rivaling cities like NYC & San Francisco. The Federal government created a national background check system with federal laws mandating it's usage at the point-of-sale back in the mid-1990's. Many states also run state-level criminal background checks for firearms purchases.
Have these initiatives stopped violent crime in Chicago? Apparently not. Have they protected Chicago's law-abiding citizens? Definitely not. Why? Criminals do not obey the law and they use illegal means to obtain guns.
Nevertheless, Superintendent McCarthy assures us that the government has the power to stop criminals with more laws. It is a fact that no law has ever stopped a criminal. Another fact is that no government in recorded history has ever been able or willing to protect every individual citizen from violence. Then, there is the fact that countless individuals have historically suffered violence at the hands of governments.
Consider what Superintendent McCarthy considers successful in Chicago- supposedly decreased rampant violence in the streets of Chicago, gangs running amok, high levels of illegal drug abuse, staggering political corruption and a disarmed law-abiding populace completely dependent on the government for protection. I shudder to consider what constitutes his idea of failure!
He end his comments with the right idea of individual accountability for violent behavior, but then denies his own citizens the ability to be accountable for protecting themselves against thugs with guns. Meanwhile, he says "There's too many guns coming in..." admitting that the criminals in Chicago remain well armed despite his city's numerous gun control laws.
I pray for people that live in liberal-run cities like Chicago.

You wouldn’t have much gun crime if you had the Singapore Solution for crimes committed with guns. Cane them to within an inch of their lives, lock them up, throw away the key.
Instead, liberals want to choke of the supply of stolen weapons by disarming the law abiding, coincidentally leaving them helpless against aggression by criminals... or those in authority. A stupid argument, and a policy that would take scores of years to work, while leaving the law abiding as defenseless prey.
Typical government employee - gets a boatload of money, tons of laws - and when he screws up, he says he needs MORE money and laws.

I was recently in a three-gun competition. Everyone had a pistol, rifle, and shotgun. A fair amount of full autos, even.
Hundreds of people.
Nary an improper round fired.
No one hurt (except my wife got a hot shall casing in her bra as she emptied her Glock on target, which created a bit of cussing, but didn’t cause her to lose the target.)
The carnage would have been worse over the holiday weekend except for Chief Cop McCarthy assigning extra police forces to potential trouble spots (all of Chicago?). Unfortunately, the carnage happened outside doughnut shops, bars, and cathouses where the extra patrols were stationed.
Garry McCarthy is a dismal failure.
When your police chief fails to control crime in your city, you boot his azz to the curb and put someone competent to take his place.
McCarthy is fellow Commie scum like his boss Rahmbo.

In the North GA. Mtn. over the same weekend no shootings and there is a hell of a lot of guns. Could it be a population of hard working, G_D fearing, right wing people?
The murder rate is so bad, funeral homes are offeringing volume discounts!
So of course their solution is to take guns from honest, law-abiding, non-violent people and leave them in the hands of violent criminals.
