Rocket fire reported north of Tel Aviv as Hamas dramatically ups range
Times of Israel ^ | 7-8-2014 | By Spencer Ho and Yifa Yaakov

No initial reports of injuries or damage after massive barrage across country; Netanyahu vows to widen Gaza operation, as cabinet okays call-up of 40,000 troops; rockets shot down over Tel Aviv; terrorists killed in firefight at Zikim army base; Gazan death toll in double digits.

Israel launched a major operation against Hamas and other terror groups in Gaza in the early hours of Tuesday morning, dubbed Operation Protective Edge, following heavy Hamas rocket fire over the preceding days.

The fast-escalating situation in the south comes in the shadow of spiking Jewish-Arab tensions in Israel over the brutal killings of four teenagers — three Jews and one Arab — by extremists. Stay with The Times of Israel’s liveblog for updates throughout the day.

Times of Israel has a live blog going with regular updates of the attacks on Israel.

Recent updates: 23:30 Rockets hit Hadera and coastal region

Rockets fired from Gaza hit Israel’s coastal plain, as well as the city of Hadera, located between Haifa and Tel Aviv.

Hadera, which lies in the Haifa district, was hit by three rockets launched by Hezbollah in Lebanon in 2006. At the time, was the farthest point in Israel that Hezbollah was able to hit.

This evening, the city becomes one of the farthest points in Israel that Hamas rockets are able to reach — along with Binyamina, where a Code Red siren blared earlier tonight.

23:20 Wedding celebrants seen scurrying for shelter

Channel 2 broadcasts footage of wedding participants n Ashdod fleeing during a rocket strike over an hour ago.

A Grad rocket hit near the wedding, damaging the building but causing no injuries.

Explosions heard in Sharon area, Tel Aviv

Several explosions are heard in the skies over the Sharon area north of Tel Aviv.

In the city itself, at the heart of Israel’s largest metropolitan area, a massive explosion was heard in recent minutes, according to residents.

23:08 Air force strikes heard in northern Gaza

Explosions heard in Beit Lahiya, Jabalya, other northern Gaza locations, in apparent Israel Air Force strikes.

Video shows IDF take out Hamas infiltrators

In startlingly vivid footage from a border surveillance camera, reportedly watched by a female conscripted solider, viewers can see what she saw in real time: the advance of a team of Hamas operatives from the sea toward either the navy base or the community of Zikim.

The video shows a pair of Hamas gunmen firing their weapons, probably at the Israeli army infantry forces that first engaged them — the soldier on the right can be seen unjamming his weapon — and then running for their lives as an air force helicopter fires upon them.

Five Hamas men, reportedly naval commandos, were killed in the aborted infiltration attempt.

According to Channel 2, the conscripted soldier spotted the infiltration and alerted the forces and directed them to the area. – Mitch Ginsburg

What's to stop ISIS from getting in there if the shooting doesn't stop? Is it really smart to anger everyone in Gaza and all Palis living in Israel?

I know longer understand, at all, what is happening to the world.

I wonder if Obama will have to give back his Nobel Peace Prize.

Nice video, thanks. Gotta love the comments there.

Sigh, if only the U.S. had such strict border control...

Don't worry, Obama has it under control. He's going to a fundraiser today.

Is it really smart to anger everyone in Gaza and all Palis living in Israel?

They're already born angry. Shoot back and kill them. Or don't anger the Palis and let them blow up school buses, schools, weddings, supermarkets, cafes, as well as kidnap and torture Jewish kids. A strong deterrent is vigilance and putting them down when they attack.

>> Gazan death toll in double digits.

Only double digits? Slackers. David got into FIVE digits of philistines before he was even King.

Heck, Samson got into FOUR digits with the jawbone of a democrat!

Those were the days.

From your posts, it’s pretty clear that you loves you some philistines.

Not sure why. But I have my theories.

And that weak spineless child in the WH is calling for Israel to restrain itself from retaliating. I think maybe Kerry should step in and announce how concerned he is over the possibility of Israel going into Gaza and doing some Biblical thing.

I don’t dislike Palistinians. Plenty of Palis, including young teens sent here to live with relatives and stay out of fighting, live in this area. They speak English, they all work, the children are well behaved, they’re intelligent and good neighbors. I really don’t understand why Israel does things like building those settlements that provoke the whole population.

The way things are going, in about a year, the only way for a businessman to make a few bucks, (without owning a munitions plant or being a banker for a national ruler) is to set up a falafel stand on the Plain of Meggido.

Israel builds settlements on *their* land because IT IS THEIR LAND.

Palestinians be damned. They don’t belong there. Go to Syria, Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq... who cares where. Just get the hell out of the land Yahweh promised the Israelites (and Yahweh NEVER reneges on His promises).

For my part, I really don’t understand why that subhuman pali vermin shoots, bombs, and butchers Israelis every chance they get. They don’t want a state, anyway. They just want to crap in Israel’s sandbox.
