Twelve EU countries have warned investors not to do business with Israeli settler entities, amid a security crisis in Israel and Palestine.
The group includes: Austria; Belgium; Croatia; Denmark; Finland; Greece; Ireland; Luxembourg; Malta; Portugal; Slovakia; and Slovenia.
Portugal published its statement on Wednesday (2 July) and the others came out on Thursday. France, Italy, and Spain put out similar communiques earlier this week. Germany and the UK already did it months ago. Poland is expected to publish a warning shortly.

“The 12 warnings make similar points, with the Irish one, for instance, saying that “economic activities (including in services like tourism) in Israeli settlements or benefiting Israeli settlements, entail legal and economic risks”.

The status of Israeli settlements is not clear, everyone in the world knows that and this EU “statement” does nothing else than point out that in case of “legal problems” EU/national governments might not be able to help out... I see nothing indicating that this is anything more than a kind of “hey tourists, don’t go to Somalia, if you are kidnapped, you’re on your own” warning.

Well, at least we’re on the same page with respect to Gaza.
It’s not about my personal opinion, or yours. Vast majority of the world find it legitimate therefore saying that investing in the settlements is risky is a kind of master of the obvious statement.
It’s not about what the “vast majority of the world” says. The world is not about tyranny of the majority—especially when the “vast majority” of same are utterly wrong.
Consider the remarkably outsized focus on Israel, though. Big sign of the end.

Believe me, we could starve them to death if we ever want to do so. Together those nations above are by far the biggest trade partners of the Israelis. If the EU would stop its economic relationsship with Israel, the impact for the Israelis will be a desaster.
Of course such ridicolous behavior makes no sense and nobody has the intention. It is rather the contrary. Germany i.e. donated advanced submarines (for free!) to Israel for giving them a nuclear second-strike-capacity. We want Israel as a (if not “the”) free zone on the Arab part of Asia in the future. Nevertheless we would be pleased, if the Israelis could solve their problems in the occupied areas of Palestina (or Israel - I do not care) with less noise and with less violence.
Sometimes you need real friends to get some honest advice. The Israeli problem is, that the cost of conditioning the arabs in the long term is far too high. A peace would be much cheaper. The development of this country from the 2nd to the 1st world will simply not happen under those conditions.
In the meantime many many young Israelis leave their country for ...Europe..., since this is a much better place for them to be. In combination with the breathtaking arabian birth rate the days of Israel are counted, if they do not find a sustainable solution with the Palestinians.
Nevertheless it is their own decision.
