Michelle Howard becomes Navy's first female four-star admiral

The U.S. Navy has promoted Vice Adm. Michelle Howard to admiral, making her the first female four-star officer in the Navy's 236-year-history, the White House said Tuesday.

Howard, who was the first African-American woman to command a Navy ship, will become vice chief of naval operations, according to her online Navy biography.

"Her historic career is taking a next step today," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.

I don’t know the answer to the question “is she any good”. From what I have read, she graduated from the Naval Academy in 1992. That means she has been a commissioned officer for 22 years. Any Officer that rises to the 4 star rank in that short period of time is very very good OR she, has some powerful political friends.

good on her... she was the first African-American female to command a ship for the Navy... and she is the first female four-star admiral... an accomplishment to be sure...

Commander Darlene Iskra was the first female to command a ship in the USN back in 1990... she retired after 21-years of service... Michelle Howard has had a longer career--by about 11 years thus far... had Commander Iskra continued her career in the Navy, she may have been the first female Admiral... who knows...

I will look into this as something is very, very wrong if this is true. No one is THAT good. No one. Even the fastest rising star can’t make O-7 until at least 20 years, let alone 4-stars at 22-yrs.
