Chris McDaniel May Fight Mississippi GOP Senate Primary Loss In Court [Sen. Graham Hails Afro-Vote!]

Chris McDaniel May Fight Mississippi GOP Senate Primary Loss In Court

Cochran's tea party challenger, Chris McDaniel, refused to concede and in a statement Wednesday afternoon did not rule out the possibility of taking his case to court.

McDaniel and many of his supporters are incensed that Cochran achieved his victory in part by winning votes from Democrats, who were able to take part in the contest because of the state's open primary law.

Tuesday's runoff was 67,000 votes higher than in the first round of voting earlier this month — a rare occurrence. Some of the biggest increases came in heavily black — and Democratic — areas, particularly in and around Jackson, the capital, and in smaller communities in the state's Delta region.

"If our party and our conservative movement are to coexist, it is paramount that we ensure the sanctity of the election process is upheld," McDaniel's statement said. "We must be absolutely certain that our Republican primary was won by Republican voters.

"In the coming days, our team will look into the irregularities to determine whether a challenge is warranted," the statement said. "After we've examined the data, we will make a decision about whether and how to [proceed]."

Establishment GOP figures praised Cochran's victory as an indication of an inclusive campaign. One of the architects of the strategy, Henry Barbour, the nephew of former Mississippi governor and Republican Party Chairman Haley Barbour, said Cochran's outreach to Democrats was "good for the party" — a way to broaden the GOP's shrinking base of older, white voters.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) noted that "receiving African American votes in the Republican primary is no easy thing" and said that "Republicans should celebrate the fact that African Americans felt good enough about a Republican to think he's a fair man."

Evil has been let loose upon the land, and the GOP is quite literally partying with the Devil.

An investigation is a good idea (and water is wet).

If Cochran did indecent things with animals when young, now his partisans have all done it.

Cochran's tea party challenger, Chris McDaniel, refused to concede and in a statement Wednesday afternoon did not rule out the possibility of taking his case to court.

Ordinarily, that would impress me as mere sour grapes.

However...

Tuesday's runoff was 67,000 votes higher than in the first round of voting earlier this month — a rare occurrence. Some of the biggest increases came in heavily black — and Democratic — areas, particularly in and around Jackson, the capital, and in smaller communities in the state's Delta region.

This does strike me as being odd: A runoff almost never attracts more votes than the initial primary election did.

Somehow, I smell a rat here...

Well, it’s pretty much how Lisa “Daddy gave this Senate seat to ME” Murkowski won the general in Alaska. She bought every Democratic and unaligned constituency she could to get enough votes to defeat Joe Miller (though Miller’s gaffes certainly didn’t help). So it can a sound tactic, if not an honorable one.

I hope McDaniel fights the good fight, but the likelihood of anything changing seems pretty slim. I’m sure the game will be rigged against any of his challenges.

Quite likely the Democrat opponent will twist and tear him into bits after this little charade.

If, as mentioned above, those dems who voted for cochran also voted in the dem primary, that is fraud.

Maybe the song should be revised: the devil went down to Mississippi?

Anyhow, the devil went down to the USA a long time ago. Why wouldn’t he, with folks beckoning him there? And sometimes even with things they call religion.

There really isn’t any legal recourse.

Sure there is:

First, find matches between voters in the June 3rd Democrat primary and the June 24th Republican run-off;

If there are more of those ineligible voters than the difference in the Cochrane and McDaniel vote totals, then:

Ask a state court to re-poll only those voters who voted on June 24th in only the polling stations where ineligible voters voted, excluding, of course, the ineligible voters.

This solution seems simple and easy. It does not entail throwing out the June 24th run-off result, just amending it to exclude votes who were erroneously permitted to vote. A court should have no problem making such an order.

It’s an open primary.

There is no “Democrat” and “Republican” election.

That said: I know nothing about MS law.

“In the coming days, our team will look into the irregularities to determine whether a challenge is warranted,” the statement said. “After we’ve examined the data, we will make a decision about whether and how to [proceed].”

There will definitely be “irregularities” and the TEA people are already setting up a Write-In campaign for McDaniel!

Don’t stay home! Don’t vote for the Dem! Stop dividing the vote!

Mississippi, join the write-in vote!

Can you imagine the payback when McDaniel wins as a write-in? It’s happened before!

I can’t wait to see the RINO’s faces when Thad goes down in spite of their treachery!

I am from a county south of Tupelo. I was disgusted when I read they voted for the current office holder. I truly thought they were smarter than that! A high school friend posted on Facebook that he could not believe people voted for that character either. I am ashamed of them.

What they can do is have illegal votes, votes by dems who voted in the dem primary, thrown out. Maybe there’s a slew and maybe not. I think that’s what Chris’s team is figuring out. I hope they also look at absentee ballots. I know it’s not the bulk but it all adds up.

As far as the November 2014 Senate race in Mississippi, I agree.

So when the same voter shows up to vote in the runoff, someone must check if he/she voted in the democrat party before. If the volunteer is a democrat, they could furnish the voter a ballot.

In my state (WA) this check would be impossible since 100% of our vote is by mail. No ID required!

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) noted that "receiving African American votes in the Republican primary is no easy thing" and said that "Republicans should celebrate the fact that African Americans felt good enough about a Republican to think he's a fair man."

"If we start making that a bad thing, we'll be the authors of our own doom," Graham said.

Didn't Linda already win her primary? Why does she feel the need to open her piehole on this issue? Does she really think any of those incremental black voters will vote for tired old white Thad in November?

All they need to do is cross check the democrat primary voter signatures to obtain ballots and check if the same voter voted again in republican runoff.

why vote for a guy who called you a racist and endorsed big govt? Best to not vote at all if one can’t vote for the leftwing Repub or the Dem.
