Ted Cruz: 'I Certainly Congratulate' Thad Cochran
Breitbart ^ | June 25, 2014 | Charlie Spiering

Chris McDaniel may have refused to concede the Mississippi Senate primary without a challenge, but Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) appears to be moving on after the Tea Party suffered primary defeats last night.

“I certainly congratulate my colleague, Thad,” Cruz said on Fox and Friends Wednesday morning, pointing out that the Republican establishment poured millions into the Mississippi race and only won by a thin margin. Cruz reminded the hosts that he did not endorse a candidate in the Mississippi primary, as he promised to stay out of incumbent Senate races.

But Cruz insisted that Cochran’s narrow victory should be a warning for Republicans in Washington, D.C. “I think that demonstrates that there is a lot of hunger for change. People are frustrated with Washington, and they're hungry for leaders who will stand up and make the case we need to go a different path,” Cruz said.

Cochran ran to the left to get dim votes.

Reagan stood for conservative principals and still got dim votes. Reagan NEVER ran to the left to get dim votes.

The dim votes Cochran got would have never voted for Reagan.

What would it hurt? Are you serious? He might think that privately, but in no way is he going to say it. So, now the purists on this forum are bashing Cruz for not going ballistic on this issue. Good grief!

I think Cruz can take a pass on this one. He has been out there fighting the good fight and taking arrows from every place. If he decides to run for Prez - then he has to keep his ammo dry in hopes to get the GOPe on board. Simple as that, IMO. Some on here want others to shoot of their mouth at every opportunity - that isn’t always the smart thing to do. Sarah can do this because she isn’t in office nor running for one right now. Cruz is just being polite and I seriously doubt he wanted Thad to win. Once again - just my opinion.\\

Even though I would prefer Ted refrain from publicly saying anything congratulatory about Cochran at this point, I do fully agree with your stance.

hungry for leaders who will stand up and make the case we need to go a different path,” Cruz said.

THIS is the money. Clearly, Cochran is not at all that.

I'm going to take the "congratulations" part as if it were delivered with a wink, nod and knowing glance.

Ted Cruz is going to learn that even the smallest slips of the tongue can result in him being disowned by those who previously professed their undying adoration and love for him.

What we’re witnessing here, is what we’ll witness during the 2016 primaries. There will be NO Republicans/conservatives left standing. I truly believe that the perfection some are looking for, simply doesn’t exist on this side of eternity. One misspeak, one contrary position, and that candidate will be disowned. We are doomed to totalitarianism.

“Cruz reminded the hosts that he did not endorse a candidate in the Mississippi primary, as he promised to stay out of incumbent Senate races. “

Cruz is probably kicking himself in the head that he made that promise....

At least I hope he is...

So he wouldn’t get Haley Barbour’s endorsement. whoop de doo. Im not bashing Cruz, just saying had I been in his shoes, I would have gone after Cochran for being the Democrat candidate.

And the ‘purist’ crap is laughable. At least we ‘purists’ dont go to the desperate lengths of paying Democrats to win elections.

I could not support Cochran in Mississippi. He is now the Democrat nominee. I would look for a way to get McDaniel on the ballot somehow and if not, see if there is a conservative running for one of the third parties and vote for that person. This is disgusting, and should be an impetus for folks to leave the GOP and form a third party. Conservatives cannot win using the GOP as their vehicle. The door has been slammed shut. I have said all along that we should try to use the GOP but if the party prevents it (by open primaries, front loading liberal states in the Presidential primary and similar tactics), then we have to go elsewhere, even if it means some tough times. We could win in Mississippi and Kentucky with a good candidate and some money. We could win the Presidency same way, but it would take a lot of money and a big name. Look at what Perot did, and he was a nut. Yet, he was winning before he quit.

Sarah Palin, Rush, Mark Levin and a few stalwarts like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee and $50 million would start a brushfire. It's time. If we wait for the party nominee in 2016, I fear we will be disappointed. You think this fight was bad? Wait til you see what they do to Cruz or even Walker in the Presidential primaries.

Not sure if serious, but...

Ronald Reagan never pandered to Democrats in order to receive their votes. He proudly espoused his conservative values and appealed to ALL voters, not just particular interest groups. And he certainly didn’t demonize other Republicans.

Good grief! If anybody thinks Cruz supported what went on in MS, chalk it up to their ignorance!

Some FReepers seem to only be content when starting trouble...where none existed!

Ted Cruz is as conservative and a whole helluva lot smarter than most Freepers!

I was rooting for McDaniel big time because I am tired of
long time congress critters who get corrupted by the DC life.

I looked up ACU’s rating on Cochran and it is acceptable 88%.
(almost all democrats are under 7%).

At this point, I just want Harry Reid gone! If Cochran wins
in November, I can live with yesterday’s result. All the good
bills passed by the House never get even a debate, much less
votes in the senate because of Reid. He is worst of the worst.
