This Conservative Icon (George Will) Isn’t Apologizing for the Column that Has ‘the Rabble’ Furious
The Blaze ^ | June 21, 2014 | Zach Noble

George Will isn’t backing down, even as critics are “calling for [his] head.”

Will’s Washington Post column on sexual assault stirred up a great deal of controversy, as he acknowledged in an interview with C-SPAN published Friday.

“Today, for some reason … indignation is the default position of certain people in civic discourse,” he said. “They go from a standing start to fury in about 30 seconds.”

The internet has “erased the barriers of entry to public discourse,” Will said, which is good because more people can be involved in conversations, but it’s bad because a lot of those people aren’t that bright.

“Among the barriers of entry that have been reduced, is you don’t have to be able to read, write, or think,” he said. “You can just come in and shout and call names and carry on.”

In his controversial column and in the Friday interview, Will argued that progressives on college campuses are eroding centuries of legal precedent while feeding into misplaced fears about a “supposed campus epidemic of rape.”

Will criticized rape and sexual assault statistics put out by the Obama administration and blamed progressivism for potentially ruining the lives of young men who, rather than being clearly-defined rapists, are swimming in the ”sea of hormones and alcohol that gets [them] into so much trouble on campuses.”

If liberals truly take rape and sexual assault to be serious crimes, Will argued, they should not seek to blur distinctions between different kinds of assault, nor should they call, as the the Education Department has, for using the “preponderance of the evidence” standard in sexual assault cases.

I know George Will has been irritating with some of his opinions, but on this he is exactly right on this.

Go to the video linked at The Blaze and support George Will if you so desire at the Blaze and at You Tube. We need to start standing up to these people that inundate these forums. It doesn't mean we have to engage directly with them, but at least show to the undecided that there are other viewpoints. We need to stand with people like George Will even if we don't agree with him 100%! And who does a person agree with 100% in the first place?!

He is exactly right which is why the left is in a spittle flecked fit.

Under no circumstances can they allow plain spoken common sense to intrude into their narrative.

If they allow it here where will it end? Pretty soon people will be asking what is a country without its borders, or why not make welfare recipient earn their stipends?

I wish I had more faith in the intelligentsia... but there's never been a country run by 'elites' that didn't devolve into horror. Sorry Plato - you and old Socrates were wrong on the Philosopher King crap... doesn't work in real life.

Sorry...by mistake sent my response below to you by private email. Anyway, here it is again. :)

I’m not here to argue his consevative credentials. That’s where we on the right, IMO, start goofing up in looking for perfection and 100 percent agreement all the time. I get caught up in that, too, but we’ll never find that 100 percent satisfaction with anyone and the left relishes it when we are divided. If we are going to start turning things around it’s going to have to be sometimes supporting and forming alliances with people that we are not overly fond of. George Will is sticking up for men here, but more importantly he is sticking up for liberty and due process. Even a dumbed down liberal ought to be able to glom onto that and see that it’s a good thing.

I agree.

But with the mindless progressives and borderline insane in charge of government and learning institutions, it's a hopeless cause.

Only the 60% of society, which isn't borderline insane and/or hopelessly ignorant can raise their voices and demand change.

It may not happen in my lifetime, so long as the ADA is sacrosanct and considers a whack job as the total equal of you and me.

Even to serving in government as a congressman or national leader!

“A young lady has ah, felt that ah, my treatment of women in my lyrics and social comments has not been particularly positive. And ah, there’s no reason why it should be. You should take your lumps along with everybody else because women do stupid f*****g things, just like the guys do. And if I say guys are stupid and a woman does something stupid, don’t be a wimp about it, just because you got that thing between your legs is no problem.”

Sorry Plato - you and old Socrates were wrong on the Philosopher King crap... doesn't work in real life.

perhaps it is not working because our "philospher kings" do not fit what Socrates had in mind... "lovers of true knowledge, wisdom lovers"... our Founding Fathers would have fit this mold... what we have today are faux intellects...

and i believe with my whole-heart the reason we do not have citizens who fit the shoes of philosopher king is that the majority of citizens, even conservative citizens, send their children to government school... until that stops, this country will continue to be lead the the faux intellects, and the land of the free and the home of the brave will be no more...

Will is right on this issue. Feminists have a target on men in college. A woman can sleep with a guy and a day later claim rape. Universities have star chambers which declare men guilty until the men prove themselves innocent.

The mindless, single issue zombies should be ignored. Don’t feed them, don’t engage them, and if they want to cry about the failure of their precious litmus test, they should start a vanity post or perhaps a blog.

The idea that someone shouldn’t be supported, despite agreement on an issue, because of some other disagreement that has nothing to do with the primary topic, is the pinnacle of childish stupidity. Withholding support unless there is 100% agreement on every issue is plain old narcissism. There is no shortage of that in the Conservative sphere and it is proudly on display here on FR. There is always someone thread dumping their pathetic butt hurt because they can’t handle a person getting support that isn’t just like them on every topic and issue.

Good luck building support with your alienating single issue obsessions. Politics and leadership, real leadership, requires compromise. Yet many wonder and lament the lack of Conservative leadership. The answer is right there. When you demand agreement, abandon clarity, and undermine allies with litmus tests, you will find yourself alone and in a world where you have only yourself to blame. This is no better displayed than on social issues where Democrats consistently win. They know the weakness and they exploit it to their advantage

Perhaps, but the dimmest of them are brighter than the so-called "journalists", celebrities, and college professors who parrot groupthink newspeak.
