No, Eric Cantor Didn’t Lose Because Of Anti-Semitism
American Prowler ^ | 6.13.14 | Megan Cairns

Most of us are still trying to figure out exactly what was behind Eric Cantor’s shocking primary loss on Tuesday. But some on the left were able to jump to conclusions almost immediately after the election. Their hypothesis? Eric Cantor is a victim of Tea Party anti-Semitism.

Even ignoring the fact that Dave Brat was not technically a Tea Party candidate, the theory has zero supporting evidence. It is ridiculous to suggest that a district that has been electing Cantor since 2000 recently developed a case of raging anti-Semitism. This is a case of liberals assuming that everyone is as racially aware and involved in identity politics as themselves.

The careless speculation began immediately with leftist tweets smugly noting that Cantor is the only Jewish Republican in the House. Amanda Terkel, a Huffington Post journalist, retweeted a tweet that noted, “Cantor lost to someone who quoted the New Testament in his acceptance speech.” Not the New Testament!

The liberal blogs were predictably contemptible. Daily Kos asked the question, “Did House Majority Leader Eric Cantor lose the Virginia Republican Primary (VA-07) to Tea Party candidate David Brat because of an anti-Semitic Evangelical Christian backlash against the only Jewish Republican in Congress?” and then noted that “During his victory speech David Brat called Cantor's defeat 'a miracle from God'" as if that answered the question.

Sheryl Gay Stolberg of the New York Times decided the issue was legitimate enough to explore:

Now Mr. Cantor’s stunning primary loss on Tuesday — to a little-known economics professor, David Brat, who called his election “a miracle from God” — has raised questions about whether anti-Semitism was at work. “Did Eric Cantor lose because he’s Jewish?” asked TheWeek.com, a newsmagazine.

I think he lost because more voters than not were smites!

They wanted to smite Cantor.

How do you spell anti-semitism?

In this instance it’s:

These jerk-offs on the left like to caricature people they disagree with as bigots (and of course that’s not prejudice) - but they conveniently ignore the fact that Tim Scott (who’s black) won the Republican nomination for Senator with something like 90% of the vote in South Carolina, a state that’s arguably more conservative and more Southern in character than is Virginia.

I suppose if I customarily thought along those lines, I would have realized that Cantor was Jewish but I never gave it a thought.

Cantor served seven terms, so I guess the voters in his district must be pretty slow learners if they all of a sudden kicked him out because he was Jewish.

A new signup here on FR was saying the same thing...claimed Virginians don’t like Jews, and the House is closed to Jewish people.

After he’d won ten or more elections, what sort of moron would even pose the question whether he lost the most recent one because of anti-seminism?

All those anti-Semitic voters HAD NO IDEA that Cantor was Jewish when they elected him.

Q: “Did Eric Cantor lose because he’s Jewish?”

A: Inasmuch as almost no one knew Mr. Cantor was Jewish, the answer is "No."

Medved pulled this also.

If being elected 6 times and then losing your 7th election is how the voters show they are prejudiced against you, then throw me in that brier patch.

Right. What a sick lame excuse. He lost because he turned his back on his party and his base.

Richmond has a significant Jewish population. The only anti-Jewish sentiment is from Democrats (who hate Israel).

The present Congress has 12 Jewish senators (12%, obviously), and 22 Jews in the House (5%).

Obvious proof of anti-Semitism in a nation where Jews are <2% of the population. /s

I have always noticed that Jews always find themselves in high places and that trend goes all the way back to Joseph.

On the other hand Benjamin Disraeli thought Scots were always “at the head of the poll”, whatever that means.

Yes, in fact, he was born Yoe, his mother was a Semite, & his father was a Saem

...Yoe Semite-Saem

I suppose if the whiners are saying he was voted out because Cantor is Jewish, then he was only voted in because he Jewish.

Makes about as much sense from anything else from Regressives.

I didn’t either.

And .. besides, that was NOT the reason he lost his election.

I believe Cantor lost because he joined with Boehner in pushing immigration. While their plan was not Amnesty, it has been pointed out that once the people are here, the left will push for them to have citizenship .. thereby giving the left thousands of new VOTERS.

Anybody who does not realize that the goal of the left with Amnesty is NEW VOTERS .. is not paying attention.

Obama just mentioned that these “Dreamers ARE OUR FUTURE”. He was telling DEMOCRAT DONORS that these young people will be used to keep the dems in office forever.

And .. Boehner and Cantor are buying the dem’s constant whining that if the repubs do not support Amnesty, the repubs will never win elections again (which is such a HUGE lie .. because we know when anybody is caught up in Amnesty they WILL BE A REGISTERED DEMOCRAT).

BUT .. most of us know the dems idea is a red herring .. and most repubs know it .. but evidently Cantor did not. I was very encouraged when Cantor first got elected; however, when he became Majority Leader (directly under Boehner), I saw him changing .. and supporting more and more of the left’s ideas.

Aside from all that Amnesty stuff .. the American people are getting fed up with what’s happening in D.C. .. and, the repub leadership is apparently not concerned. I believe this is the real reason Cantor lost.

One thing you never want to do is take your constituents for granted. That is a very, very big mistake.

That was me. I guess he was too squishy to be leader, but he was definitely an asset to the GOP in terms of appealing to Jewish voters.
