Actually Putin is just trying to get there before Al Queda is done in Iraq and starts heading the other way.

Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said a “column” with armored vehicles had crossed from Russia through border control points controlled by separatists near the village of Dyakove in eastern Ukraine. Three tanks went to the town of Snizhne, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Dyakove, and one remained there while the two others headed toward the town of Horlivka and were engaged by the Ukrainian military, he said. He added that part of the column was destroyed.

I am skeptical that Putin is sending tanks into the Ukraine to provide the Ukrainian military with target practice. My own $0.05 is that units of the Ukrainian military engaged other units of the Ukrainian military.

Lots of different stories about this. The Ukrainians have claimed they are t-72’s in some stories, T-62’s in others.

If the different tales are to be believed, they came from:

A) Captured in Crimea, and brought through Southern Russia
B) T-62B’s that were captured from the Ukrainian Army in Southern Ukraine

There are numerous videos of the rebels using captured/abandoned/bought equipment, and it is confirmed that they captured at least one broke-down T-72 with reactive armor at a base in southern Ukraine.

They have even gotten WW2-era stuff running, including some of the 23 DUKW’s they found abandoned warehouse in Donetsk, an IS-3 “Stalin” that had been sitting on an outside concrete display stand for 60+ years, and several pieces from a WW2 Museum also in Donetsk.

We know Kiev has been deploying as many as 40 tanks at a time between Slovyansk and Luhansk, and that the rebels have captured a few of even the latest model Ukrainian stuff, but this is apparently too far south for that.

I tend to think it is the first case, as there were tweets a couple of weeks ago that Crimean volunteers were trying to get “Several” broken down T-62’s that the Ukrainians had left behind running.

EuroMaidanPR claims they were in a town called Makiivka 2 hours ago, so they are probably already in Donetsk by now.

And ALL the walls come tumbling down on the same day.

Wait for it, there will be another shoe fall soon. Expect it to be bad. You probably won’t be disappointed.

“My own $0.05 is that units of the Ukrainian military engaged other units of the Ukrainian military”

Entirely possible, given events, but I still think these are out of Crimea. Lots of Media stories about how Cossack Volunteers from Crimea were planning to head to “Novorussia” soon. Given how prevalent smuggling is in that part of the world, it is highly likely that these never touched “Russian” soil.

Putin wouldn’t send in a trio of old T-62’s, if he were testing, or trying to send a message.

So far all that´s certain is that rebel forces in Ukraine today started showing off 3 T-64s today.

We should ask Putin to deploy some tanks on our southern border. We would have more of a chance of getting a reponse by asking him than Obongo.

IOW, the resident Pro-Moscow/Paulistinian wants us to believe that Russia has nothing to do with it, even though the tanks, naturally, would have to pass through several hundred miles of Russian territory and then past Russian military garrisons and checkpoints to enter Ukraine.

The media is reporting that they are T-72s, by the way.

VIDEO of the three tanks entering a Donetsk suburb just before dark today, supposedly.

It shows the three tanks, and two KAMAZ, with one towing a light AA gun (SU-1?).

They look like T-62’s to me, but don’t T-64’s look almost the same?
