A Letter to Virginia Republicans
Virginia Free Citizen ^ | 5/16/2014 | Rev. Travis E. Witt

Where is the condemnation?

As a member of the Republican Party of Virginia’s State Central Committee, l am learning that some Republicans resemble chameleons. The Republican Creed of Virginia is ignored. The carrot of power is sought as principle replaces pragmatism. Honesty is not their best policy. Giving or raising money covers a multitude of sins. Is $15,000 enough penitence for Bolling’s return? “Can’t we all get along now?”

Criticizing a Republican’s unethical behavior is shunned, unless condemnation is directed at one more conservative than you. “Don’t criticize a Republican.” When the six point message of our creed is rejected to secure power, there will be no participation in kum ba yah moments around Republican campfires; I cannot “just get along.”

Hundreds of “happy campers,” attending Virginia Beach’s Big Tent meeting for the first time were purged for power. Eric Cantor’s Young Guns destroyed years of coalition building. Where did Cantor’s “Fledgling Firearms” secure their “basic training” – Mitch McConnell, Karl Rove, Amelia Island?

A Freedom of Information Act request for Campbell County email addresses was used to tell employees that Republican extremists would eliminate their jobs if they did not participate in the Republican mass meeting. “Sign the loyalty oath; it doesn’t matter.” Democrats helped eliminate convention delegates, including the candidate seeking chairmanship of the 5th District and a House of Delegates member. Parliamentarian for the evening’s festivities was Mike Thomas, Vice Chair of the State Central Committee, Mr. Slating 101, and one of Cantor’s Big Three.

Cantor disenfranchised voters, promoted divisiveness Virginia Congressional districts, and violated the principles that define Virginia’s GOP. Where is the condemnation from Republican Party leadership, State Central, US Congressmen, Virginia Senators or House of Delegates? Is winning at any cost ever acceptable? Have money and retribution silenced the statesmen and hindered the penman? Why are leaders blind, deaf, and mute to Cantors’ destruction of our Big Tent message?

Should we ignore the obvious because of Cantor’s position? No one is that important – no one. Cantor’s behavior mocks leadership. The Virginia Beach and Campbell County tomfooleries ridiculed principled leadership. Cantor is not principled. He needs no power.

My message as State Central Committee member to all Republicans, remove Eric Cantor from office.

Eric Cantor has instigated dissent in Virginia. To every Republican leader in Virginia, condemn Cantor’s behavior. Places of prestige are not more important than positions of principle. Silence is complicity.

A Cantor defeat on June 10th sends a message that deplorable and divisive behavior, even by the House Republican Majority Leader, is unacceptable. Help make phone calls or knock doors on Saturdays in the 7th. Principled Republicans must win; Cantor’s Big Tent evictions lose. Anyone who believes otherwise ignores history or worships at the church of R.

Success is fleeting when power and purse trump foundational principles. Principles ultimately prevail over power when principled people remain principled. Long term success is secured when Republicans reject Eric Cantor. The best time to start the appropriate and proper purging is June 10th.

The VA GOP is about as useless as a one-legged clothespin.

The Republican party in VA used ignorance and apathy to let itself lose to McAwful.

“The Republican party in VA used ignorance and apathy to let itself lose to McAwful.”

Losing to a creep like McAuliffe required more than just ignorance and apathy. A deeply flawed candidate didn't help matters.

Actually, losing to McAwful took more than apathy. There was sinister intent on the part of the RNC involved. Even a one-legged clothes pin will burn nicely, if the fire is hot enough. (Note to moderator: burn and fire here are used figuratively, as in a commitment to a change of political direction not a literal meaning of taking rotten politicians and throwing them on a fire, which would be illegal and is not to be encouraged.)

“deeply flawed candidate”? Cuccinelli was a deeply flawed candidate?

Guess you didn’t notice all those RINOs who failed to support a good conservative candidate because they didn’t get the nomination for their RINO buddy, like Bill Bolling, Vince Callahan, Tom Davis, etc.

Guess that Republican unity stuff only applies when a RINO is the candidate.

The Virginia Republican Party has a long history of screwing the conservative candidate when one of their elites doesn’t get picked. Goes back to when Ollie North was shafted by John Warner and Marshall Coleman because he dared to challenge them and actually beat them in a vote from the people.

The lack of support for Cuccinelli by the Virginia GOPe does not diminish my view that he was a deeply flawed candidate. I know several strongly conservative women who sat out the election, not because of what members of the party elite said or did, but because of the campaign Cuccinelli ran. Plus, the Libertarian candidate most likely siphoned off enough votes from Cuccinelli to ensure McAuliffe’s victory.

The good news is that McAuliffe is term-limited to four years and the House of Delegates is still strongly conservative.

I've been a FReeper for some time, thank you, and I don't engage in adolescent name-calling like some of us do.

In any case, you missed my point. Cuccinelli never effectively countered the “war on women” ads by the democrats, and that is the primary basis for my statement that he was a deeply flawed candidate. Enjoy your remaining 3 and a half years of McAuliffe.

Your statement is illogical.

Cuccinelli was a deeply flawed candidate because OTHERS (democrats and RINOs) ran false ads against him having a “war on women”? Some is “flawed” because someone else makes libelous statements about him?

Sorry, but central_va is right - you bought the war on women BS by the barrel. The democrats love “conservatives” like you who so easily fall for their propaganda and distortions.

No doubt you consider Ted Cruz a deeply flawed candidate because democrats and RINOs are saying nasty things about him too.

“Some[one] is “flawed” because someone else makes libelous statements about him?”

No; Cuccinelli was a flawed candidate, in large part, because he failed to respond effectively to the false and misleading statements by the Democrats. In fact, for months he didn't respond at all. In politics, you can't let your opponent define you. That's what Cuccinelli allowed the Democrats to do. I seriously doubt that Ted Cruz would allow that to happen to him, but we shall see.
