NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) Youve probably seen it. If not, youve definitely heard about it.
Michael Sam became the first openly-gay man to be drafted by an NFL team on Saturday when the Rams took him with the 249th pick in the seventh round.
Upon hearing the news, the former Missouri standout kissed his boyfriend, Vito Cammisano. It was televised for the world to see.
Many players, journalists and fans embraced the moment and supported Sam. But, as expected, others found the moment unsettling and inappropriate.

I don’t follow football like I used to year ago. Is this guy really NFL material?
What makes this story even more strange is that he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, who already have some of the best pass rushers in the NFL on their defensive line. This guy will have a hard time making the team.
I think when your attitude is pervasive among sports fans, the tide will start to turn. My only interest in sports is when a WI team gets into the Super Bowl, or the World Series, or whatever. When they win, my coworkers are VERY easy to get along with. (Except for the occasional Bears or Vikings fan.)
My math doesn't correspond here. Each team gets one pick per round, and there are 32 teams. Therefore, round 7 consists of picks 193 through 224; pick 249 would be in the 8th round, only I thought they went a total of 7 rounds. What'd they do, extend the 7th round to another set of picks until someone gave in and drafted the gay guy?
I wonder it it won't be just the opposite. The Rams may find it difficult to cut him because of the PR hit the gay media will put on the management.
NFL teams: "We can't have Tim Tebow on our roster because of the distractions his presence will attract. But we love the idea of bringing in a man that plays tongue hockey with another man on national TV, no controversy there."
Do I need a '/s'?
Gag a maggot!!!!
I am so sick of this crap I could scream! I hope the NFL crashes and burns. All of them.
There’s also compensatory picks for teams that lose drafted players to free agency. Compensatory picks come at the end of a round.
There are supplemental draft picks between rounds. If a team loses a free agent to another team, the team will get a supplement pick.
Wonder how many will boycott the NFL now?
Pray America wakes up
It’s the NFL...we should be glad it was a kiss and not a contract killing or domestic abuse.
MSM is winning because conservatives won’t cut the cable or satellite. They continue to tithe to the left. I’ll bet that includes a majority on this site.
Juan Williams (FNC) described it as “in your face.”
“Unsettling and inappropriate.” An accurate assessment.
Not really. He’s undersized to play LB - which I think was his college position. The Rams have drafted him to be an edge pass rusher - but by that notion, he’s not really fast enough to play DE.
I suspect he’ll play special teams first and maybe nickel packages a bit. But that’s IF he makes the team. He was a 7th round pick after all and the Rams have one of the better D-Lines in the game.
It was poor judgement by ESPN, IMO. You would have had to expect that reaction from Sam - and I’m sure they did, which is why they had cameras there to catch it.
Polarizing issues shouldn’t be thrust front and center over national broadcast media. It’s like when that idiot Bob Costas went on ranting about guns before - some NFL game - I forget. I was dumbfounded that night.
Professional Sports and the combat military were the last vestiges of examples of real men. But real men are politically incorrect today. Now these last vestiges are being replaced by limp wristed fairies and ugly ass dykes.
Pretty soon the NFL will be co-ed flag football where if anybody grabs a player anywhere close to a private part they will be suspended and sent to sexual harassment re-education camp or just sued for battery and sexual harassment.
The guy from the rams is named Les Snead, or to put it another way, there is less nead for Sam.
What kind of PR flak are the Rams going to take if he’s not good enough and they need to cut him?
My guess is they look for another team that is eager to make a PC statement and trade him off for nothing. Or some variation on that.
