Is it okay to not care that Cliven Bundy is a bigot?
The Daily Caller ^ | April 24, 2014 | Jim Treacher

Posted on 04/25/2014 1:48:55 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I haven’t been following the Cliven Bundy case because, believe it or not, southwestern grazing disputes have never been among my interests. I know the Daily Caller has done stories about him because I’ve seen the headlines, but I haven’t followed the whole thing. I haven’t written a word about him before today. I don’t care.

But now that this Bundy fellow has publicly said things that have offended a lot of black people, suddenly, he represents everybody to the right of Karl Marx. Suddenly I’m obliged to have an opinion about him.

If you want to know what I think about some rancher in Nevada, I tend to agree with the always delightful and perceptive Kira Davis. Be warned: I’m told she isn’t a proper African-American because she’s a conservative. Be that as it may, here she’s 100% correct.

(VIDEO-AT-LINK)

What Kira said.

I don’t know if Bundy’s grazing dispute has any merit. And I certainly wouldn’t subscribe to his newsletter. All I know is that he’s the latest private citizen to stand up to the government and be excoriated by the media for it. Like Kira said, it’s not about one guy. It’s about the media abusing their power to stifle dissent against government control. Just ask anybody who’s been raked over the coals for daring to complain about their health insurance. Ask Joe the Plumber. Ask Ben Carson. Ask Carrie Prejean. Ask anybody who inconveniences the left.

The message is simple: Submit, or this will happen to you too. And it’ll continue, whether or not some rancher you’ve never heard of is a dumb bigot....

When the press is out to get someone it doesn’t matter what public comments they made to whom. You are pretty naive to think otherwise.

You better have the facts first:

Here is his UNEDITED statement:

We had BETTER be MORE concerned about the Fed’s over reach!

I’ve been stating the same thing, top to bottom.

However, if someone I know is to be trusted of their opinion, Bundy’s response to the video comments was ‘out there’. I can’t play it in my browser(s) for some reason and too busy to figure it out for now.

I hope he didn’t really dig himself a deeper hole, but I’ve yet to see any comment on FR about it (could easily have missed it with my schedule).

The “low information voters” are waking up all across America and asking, “Who is Cliven Bundy?” and “What Nevada ranch?”

The mainstream media has ignored the story or otherwise relegated it to little 2-paragraph blurbs in the back pages since the beginning and now stories are magically appearing this morning on the front page of newspapers across America.

What bothers me is Treacher saying “southwestern grazing rights don’t interest me.” ?! Can’t he see the big picture? What DOES interest him? Or does he just mean that it sounds boring?

Bundy is no more a bigot than Jackson, Sharpton, Martin or Farrakhan ...

Right now Glenn Beck is channeling Sharpton, Jackson, Farrakhan & Melissa Hyphen-hyphen in denouncing Cliven Bundy as a racist.

GB has jumped the shark & I won’t listen again.

I wish people knew how to write when they have an opinion.

However, the title will find the article being opened by many on the left believing it's not what it is.

I really wish my transcription of his comments hadn't gotten lost; it really made his position stand out in direct contrast to the cherry-picked quotes, particularly his use of 'cotton picking' as a metaphor for work.

The author's opening statement is what's appalling:

"I haven’t been following the Cliven Bundy case because, believe it or not, southwestern grazing disputes have never been among my interests.

Suddenly I’m obliged to have an opinion about him."

Suddenly everyone has to demonstrate they're equally biased as those that are 'outraged' and that they all have an analogue of an opinion...at least in this case he's promulgating something more honest than 99% of the rest of it (and from the subject group at that) instead of spouting more scat about that which he admits he knows nothing about...

Good article.

For anybody who is confused as to what racism is its not Mr. Bundy using an analogy (maybe not the greatest) to talk about how the Democrats have kept Blacks from progressing in our society.

Now if he had come on TV and said “the brain of black man is smaller than that of the white man” well you get my drift.

Outrageous stuff like, “suit up and boot up”

http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-TV/2012/04/08/New-Black-Panthers-Call-For-Race-War-Blood-Shed-Kill-Crackers-For-Trayvon-April-9th-Day-of-Action

Bundy’s analogy is poorly chosen, but his point is valid. Bundy’s “racism” (in reality a bumbling analogy) is nothing in comparison to the New Black Panther’s hatred and calls for violence.

Listening to the entirety of Bundy’s remarks it is clear that he wants to help people.

Bundy needs to talk about one thing and one thing only: his situation.

The “picking cotton” may have ben a poorly chosen metaphor for learning a ‘job skill’, but the point is true. Blacks have become grist for the liberal progressive mill.

Last I checked, we have a First Amendment right to express our views. I may not agree with Bundy, but I believe he has a right, in America, to say what he thinks.

Exactly.

“From where I sit, what I’ve heard of what he said is not racist, it was “racial” and yes we should still be allowed to have discussion on the subject. Free country and all that.”

You’re getting off in the weeds. Buddy’s strength came from being a sympathetic figure in the eyes of the public; lone rancher standing up against big bad over-reaching government. Since his comments, he’s lost the public’s good will. He’s now toxic to those folks and without them he can not win. He shoulda stayed on topic, that would have been the smart play. That’s all I’m saying.

He fell into a trap set by the Media—He is no more a Bigot than 50% of the men his age—he just spoke to the wrong folks and they edited what he said—I bet you could do the same to many others and make them look stupid and racist.

I couldn't agree with you more. This is a classic, timely Axelrod/Obama smear. All we need is Allred and a couple hookers now, or a Hotel masseuse with rape charges.

“All the more reason that Bundy should have stayed on topic, that being his land. But, he wanted to play talk show host and got in over his head in about one nano second. “Stupid is as stupid does”. Over, and over again and again. And so it goes......”

“Sometimes the truth is hurts....”

Yep, it does indeed. But, Bundy has a full plate with his land issue. So, he should have stated on topic with that instead of going off on stuff that will cost him good will and as politicians say, political capital. His only chance of coming out of his dilemma with some success is with the sympathy of the American people. By his naive, crude and very poor (dumb) choice of words he’s lost a bunch, perhaps most of these folks. Idiot.....
