Denton(TX) ISD Makes Dramatic Grading Changes

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The Denton Independent School District is throwing traditional grading methods right out the window, shifting to a new way of assessing their students. The change is going to happen for kids from 6th to 12th grade beginning next year. Teachers will still be handing out letter grades, but the means of calculating those scores will be different than just about any other school district in North Texas.

Hand in your homework late? You won’t get a zero.

Want a higher grade on a test? Just take it again. Grades will no longer be reduced for failure to meet deadlines. Zeroes will not be used for missing work. Students will be able to retake all exams and use the higher score. The idea is to hand out grades that show what the kids actually know, not how well they behave. “We are not dismissing the value of those behaviors,” stated Vicki Christenson, director of secondary curriculum.

“We’re simply separating them out and saying grades have to be all about learning, and not about behaviors that we value. We have to find another way to help kids build those behaviors.”

"The dog ate my homework", becomes an official excuse in Denton, TX.

I believe this is in Michael Burgesse's district, (US Rep. R-TX)

And how will this prepare the kids for real world jobs?

Is Denton expecting to only produce government workers?

Will they get a trophy for just showing up?

And when the students start “earning” better grades because the standards have been abandoned, the teachers will say “see how good a job we are doing?”

When an employee tells their boss, “Do you want it done right, or do you want it on time.”

The boss’s usual reply is, “I want it done right AND on time, and if you can’t manage that, let me know and I’ll replace you with someone that can.”

Will they get a trophy for just showing up?

Following the Woody Allen Book of Education, that'll get them an 80% score.

Typical baffle gab from the ‘teaching’ community. What they are saying is we are too lazy to keep children back, we don’t want to deal with parents, and really we want the children to teach themselves. NOW GIVES US MORE MONEY!!!!!

Teachers will get tired of testing twice and will grade easier. Btw they can’t take the state assessment tests twice, which is what the teachers are teaching most of the time.

According to a caller to the Chris Crock show, McKinney ISD is already doing this.

This will not play well in Denton. Expect the school board to be looking for new jobs soon.

They won’t stop until they manage to drag all students down to the lowest common denominator.

On the bright side, it should be quite easy for certain students to gain a top-notch positions by getting home school or private educations away from this “normal stupication” model. Break free from the crowd and the sky’s the limit, since the majority will be drones!

Evil Progressive agents have infiltrated the schools across the US via the teaching colleges. Doesn’t matter how conservative the community is. All teachers are now trained to be mental health shills and to forward the socialist nihilist agenda.

This is already spilling over into the real world in the attitudes of adult employees. Received a letter in the mail stating facts that were so wrong. Called the sending organization and lady said it would be taken care of. Two weeks later got a second letter in the mail on the same issue - only this time it was sent certified. Called again. She said that she thought it was taken care of and when I asked why another letter went out, she responded, “Well, we’re only human, we can’t be expected to check everything before it goes out”.

Almost every encounter with any organization on behalf of my business clients any more ends up with having to have something reprocessed. Getting mighty tiresome. Most everything we send out is checked by two people before it goes anywhere. If there is an error, it is immediately redone and rechecked. Matter of pride.
