Minimum Wage Increase Kills Another Business...(vanity)

This is a letter to the employees of a local restaurant. It's survived for decades, but is finally closing due to the latest increase in California's minimum wage. I guess it's better for the employees to have a higher wage, but no job with which to earn it.

That’s good. Did you just write it? Where did it come from?

Thanks. I didn’t realize the number was a link until I went back and clicked it.

Minimum Wage Increase Kills Another Business

Yeah the increase in fish prices, the economy, and the aging building had nothing to do with it. </sarcasm>

I’m with you: I don’t think it was the minimum wage that killed this particular business. The letter posted at the top of the thread describes the other factors. If the price of shellfish or the incomes of their customers had been stable, they’d still be going strong.

But there are others I’m sure it did kill.

I believe I experienced something like this a few years ago when I was in Okinawa. You saw a big display of plates/dinners on the outside of the building. You made your choice and went inside and gave the number to a clerk. In no time at all the plate was brought out. You paid for it and looked for the place to eat. Fortunately there was most often a place/table inside. In any case(s) I found the food and service quite satisfactory.

The robots that are coming are not like that. It will be most interesting to see what the final form of fast food service will evolve into.

Their website is still up:

I used to love California's good-quality, inexpensive seafood restaurants.
