City's chief rabbi states pamphlet is fake, claiming it is meant to discredit pro-Russian protesters or Jewish community
The barricades outside the Donetsk regional administration building are plastered with anti-fascist posters. Photograph: Scott Olson/Getty Images The barricades that mark the entrance to the "Donetsk People's Republic" are plastered with anti-fascist posters, including an American flag with a swastika in place of the stars. The pro-Russian protestors who have set up their own government in the occupied administration building see the new Kiev regime as dominated by intolerant Ukrainian nationalists, which is why it was more than a little ironic when an antisemitic flyer appeared on Wednesday ordering Jews to register with these new authorities.
US secretary of state John Kerry soon waded into the media storm over the piece of paper, describing it as "grotesque" and "beyond unacceptable". But on Friday the chairman of the Donetsk People's Republic and the city's chief rabbi both stated that the flyer was a fake meant to discredit the so-called republic or the Jewish community.
The hoax has nonetheless contributed to the tense, divisive atmosphere in eastern Ukraine, where pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian protests have ended in violence in recent weeks. A vicious information war has raged around the military operation Kiev is staging to try to take back buildings from pro-Russian demonstrators and militia, with Ukrainian media vilifying the protestors as "terrorists" and Russian media regularly calling the Kiev government a "fascist junta".
"I think it's someone trying to use the Jewish community in Donetsk as an instrument in this conflict. That's why we're upset," the chief rabbi, Pinchas Vishedski, told journalists on Friday.

Gee,Rabbi....and chance that it's not meant to do either of those things but, rather,to discredit those wanting closer ties to the West?
That Kerry would even address it was stupid. Just more US and Ukraine propaganda against the Russians.
No kidding. Neocon Review Online ran two hysterical articles yesterday touting this obvious forgery.
Pretty must the same supposed on John Bachelor show yesterday...

Thursday 17 April 2014 / Hour 1, Block D: Larry Johnson, NoQuarter, in re: Putin having a good year. He illustrate the difference between someone who knows what he’s doing and his US counterpart, who’s muddling. Stat, CIA, WH: do they know that its game over in Ukraine? No. A potential overt action Donetsk leaflet demanding Jews’ register; probably a clumsy deed by the West. No strategic vision of focus in Washington; being played for domestic politics. DCI Brennan went to Kyiv to consult why? Because he’s a clown! If he has to go secretly, use tradecraft. Obviously the Russians knew of his arrival; al amateur hour on the part of Barack Obama, The incompetence reinforces the Russian OV and story that the US tried to create a coup in Ukraine and that intell services are meddling, whether these are true or not, Russian story is that the US is “attacking democracy.” Russians; there was an elected president in Ukraine, overthrown by the US. Recall the recording of the disgraced Victoria Nuland of State Department. Whole world was shocked. Russians’ acting in their natl interest and are clear; US has no clue, will depend on European decision and the Europeans are scared to death.
BTW, I doubt the CIA or other foreigners had anything to do with the flier, it was probably just local pro-Kiev people. But considering the moronic behavior of people in the CIA and State Dept. lately, we can’t be 100% sure of that.
Had a bunch of people here using it as proof Putin is Hitler.
Who would say such a thing about a good, decent, Christian man?
They are protesting fascism? When do they start shooting their Russian shepherds and themselves?
Probably dolts that cant think clearly. Just a guess. There are about 4 or 5 here. Surely you have seen them. They hop on every Russia thread and ignore anything they don’t like while making fools of themselves. They completely ignore the Occupy Ukraine BS of the State Dept. the “Hey lets start a crisis cuz our economy sucks” of the EU.
It’s ALL Vlad’s fault I tell ya!
So true. Only Russians supporting Putin should be allowed to post on Russia threads. So there wouldn’t be any “misunderstandings.”
Only people lacking myopia should be discussing it. People that cant get past their emotions don’t contribute anything useful. They just stand there screaming like liberals. Which, my guess is what they are.
And probably why they fall so easily for propaganda.
I woouldn’t know. Since I don’t have that problem. Thats the kind of thing one enjoys, the ‘clarity of mind’ that comes with not fantasizing it’s 1962 and looking at all the things that lead up to this fiasco. you know, like the State Dept getting caught cold with their hands dirty. Little inconsequential things like that add up.
Or when you have RINOs lining up to push this into a shooting war with out guys in the middle of it. Now personally I don’t support RINOs but I suppose people who attacked conservatives for not helping Shirted Mitt the Man of a Thousand Opposing Truths, ascend to the throne might not understand that such is a bad idea.
Good trolling, mate! He still won’t get it: Russians are notoriously slow :)
I suspecting the pamphlets were anti-Russian disinformation, though one can never be sure in that part of the world. Neither side of the current struggle over Ukraine have been friendly toward Jews, but the Polish-leaning western Ukraine has been the most bitterly anti-Semitic dating back to its complicity in the Holocaust. For that reason alone the original story sounded dubious. Spin machines are running faster on both sides that I’ve seen since the height of the Cold War, so a healthy skepticism of both sides is prudent.
In Russia, it’s not propaganda if you are the one repeating it. ;)
This is my belief, but who really knows?
