An Ohio teacher has been fired after a black student who said he wanted to become president claimed the teacher told him the nation didnt need another black commander in chief.
The Fairfield Board of Education voted 4-0 on Thursday night to fire science teacher Gil Voigt from Fairfield Freshman School, according to The Cincinnati Enquirer.
The district felt that the evidence was sufficient to support the termination of Mr. Voigts employment, Superintendent Paul Otten said in statement.
Voigt did not immediately return a call seeking comment Friday but has said the student misquoted him.

No matter what the teacher said, they are open to trouble. The one alternative is to give encouragement that will “burn out” the idea.
For example, tell the student it is a great idea, then ask them how they plan to enter politics? The student won’t have a clue, but finding out is very discouraging.
It was a stupid thing to say, but there is still that “pesky” First Amendment......
Of course it is evidence -...He Said/she said is NOT evidence, maroon.
It’s amazing that Obama has totally forsaken his white mother’s contribution to his race. Isn’t that a direct affront to all women? Talk about a war on women...he has a war on his own mom and as I recall, his white grandmother too. And yet, the women’s movement is silent...
Obama’s father was a bum. But, isn’t this what Islam is all about? Women are garbage. Bum father is a god?

If he has a documented history - fire his ass.
And if a black teacher said the same about a white president - and there was credible evidence - ditto.
Thanks; I’ve had others correct me on that point too.
Still boils down to student’s word against teacher’s, and the prejudice of the “referee” in light of no other evidence aside from “accusation”.
Documented history of accusations?
“Another poster is correct this is not hearsay. It is direct evidence.”
I’m guessing you don’t teach law. Technically this is hearsay as “an out of court statement offered to prove the truth of the matter being asserted.” However, it is admissible as only one of the many exceptions to the hearsay rule. Admissibility of the statement has nothing to do with being “direct evidence.”
Out of court statements made by the party being sued can be admitted under certain circumstances, and often are. Hearsay is one of the most difficult concepts for any lawyer or law student (or layperson) to grasp b/c of the many exceptions to the rule coupled with the fact that an objection must be made in court practically simultaneous to testimony.
Bottom line, it is hearsay that can be admitted.
If this is true then what the teacher did was wrong. She was out of line....
Correct. But I was trying to not get too technical as this was not a court proceeding.
Thicker skin...
Assuming the teacher said this (and I am skeptical), it was a dumb thing to say but not something that justifies firing. I know of a teacher who said Obama is the best “president” in history, and if they can get away with something that stupid an unpatriotic without getting fired, a less egregious comment should not trigger firing.
A more sensible comment would have been, “I hope you become president. After that shockingly stupid, drug-addled communist set such a disgusting example compared to what any real American of any skin color could have done, it would be nice to see a decent, hard-working, honest African American in that position. If you’re a small-government conservative, support the Second Amendment and the rest of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, and you’ve got the experience, you’ll have my vote.”
Note: I am totally indifferent to sex or skin color in a candidate, but it doesn’t hurt to pander to racists who think it matters, at least not in meaningless chatter.
How will ANY teachers possibly manage to have a long, successful career? Everybody says something they shouldn’t have every now and then. The teacher should’ve said his aim was to provoke students to have a discussion about how a president is elected in the US.
I don’t know what he said. All I know is what a student said he said.
My guess is the National Education Unions do not want any critics of Democrats, and any teacher who speaks against Obama is targeted for removal.
I believe any student claims should be backed up with at least two witnesses, and then you can’t always be sure. I had taught CJ in HS for a Community College until 2004, so I am aware of the difficulties. Today’s High Schools...no way!
Without concrete evidence of what the teacher actually said (evidence), I would think it difficult to fire a teacher...unless the Union and the School Board are far left lunatics, and then all normal rules do not apply and anything is possible.

This is the kind of situation where 1,000 parents need to show up at Fairfield Board of Education and rip their Nazi faces off.
We’re at war against the Nazi leftists who have infiltrated our country. Let’s start treating them as enemies that they are.
