BUMP that. It's the primaries ... no sitting Senator should feel that it's HIS or HER seat. Any challenger is welcome to run. Fight in the primary and then support the winner. Unfortunately, as you describe, this is what the Establishment fears and they've enlisted collaborators from the strangest of places too who are tying themselves in knots trying to justify their incumbent protection racket.
GOP Senate Seats Up For Election in 2014
Alabama: Sessions
Georgia: Chambliss (retiring)
Idaho: Risch
Kansas: Roberts
Kentucky: McConnell
Maine: Collins
Mississippi: Cochran
Nebraska: Johanns
Oklahoma: Inhofe
Oklahoma: Coburn (retiring)
South Carolina: Graham
South Carolina: Scott
Tennessee: Alexander
Texas: Cornyn
Wyoming: Enzi
None of these sitting Senators should feel that they shouldn't get a primary challenge. And if they're doing their job representing their state and the conservative platform that they ran on six years ago ... i.e. Jeff Sessions ... they wouldn't fear any primary opponent anyways. If you fear a primary opponent, there's probably good reason for that based upon your voting record (including the REAL votes for CLOTURE, not the fake ones that McConnell set up but that didn't matter).
It’s nice to see that somebody’s with me! The Establishment digs up one piece of dirt on these challengers and conservatives run for the hills. “We have to win the Senate! Don’t put a safe seat at risk!” they cry.
This is how we get types like Arlen Specter (became a democrat), Thad Cochran (attacking conservatives), John Warner (endorses democrats), Richard Lugar (endorses democrats), Ted Stevens (refuses to retire, gets defeated), Mitch McConnell (attacks conservatives), Orrin Hatch (pretends to be conservative, but helps democrats), Jim Jeffords (became independent to screw republicans and help democrats), etc.
“Honorable” mentions: Lincoln Chafee (became a democrat), Charlie Crist (could have been nominee, became a democrat), Mike Castle (would have replaced Arlen Specter as republican liberal in the senate).
These are the people the Establishment have supported year upon year, election after election...and the democrats have been assisted by these people time after time.
Wolf for Senate! Because enough is enough! Roberts: 77 years old. Lives in Virginia. Supported and voted for Sebelius. Been in Congress since 1981. And will vote for McConnell for Leader.
