Putin’s Propaganda Campaign
National Review ^ | 04/16/2014 | Jillian Kay Melchior

Posted on 04/16/2014 6:04:01 PM PDT by Siegfried X

Edited on 04/16/2014 6:18:14 PM PDT by Admin Moderator. [history]

Ivan Yakovina, a Russian foreign correspondent, sat across from me in a Cupid-themed bar not far from Kiev’s Independence Square, downing mugs of beer and complaining about the evils of Putin’s propaganda — in other words, expressing the views that recently cost him his job.

“Reporting the truth in a time of lying is a crime in itself,” Yakovina said in perfectly fluent English, one of several languages he speaks. He lives in Lviv, the only city in Ukraine that is remotely tolerable, he insists. Despite his general dislike for the country, he and several of his colleagues at the popular Russian news site Lenta.ru wrote truthfully about recent events there, which didn’t go over well in Moscow, Yakovina says.

“[Galina Timchenko], our editor-in-chief, was there [in Moscow], and she was told, ‘Keep [your reporters] calm or take them away from Ukraine. . . . [The demonstrations in Kiev] should look like a complete mess: dirt, blood, destruction, mud,’” Yakovina says, adding that the publication was instructed to rely mostly on the stories from Russia’s state-run media instead of original reporting. “She was a very heroic woman, resisting against this for months.”

This article talks about Putin's use of propaganda "to rebuild post-Soviet Russia through aggression". This is a long term plan which has been in progress for over a decade in the Ukraine.

Two decades of incredibly corrupt government, and a nation all but controlled by the most violent criminal mafias in Europe, is likely far more responsible for the loss of “identity” than Putin, I think.

Tough to be nationalistic when there isn’t much to be proud of. Just look at the state of Ukraine’s military.

What honor, working in the extermination camps, joining the SS, or helping round up and murder Jews?

Come on, they've been down so long it looks like up to them and they'll hop on the bandwagon of whoever is promising them the best deal at the moment.

Vlad doesn't hold a candle to Hitler and hordes of them waited in long lines for their turn to kiss Hitler's rear. Let them and the Russians kill each other til the cows come home and send both sides free ammunition.

It's just another diversion for twits who care more about some other country than the do about fixing the US.

Right. That’s all the “Putinistas” are saying here. The difference is at least Putin seems to be a patriot and has improved the country markedly since taking over, albeit from a low benchmark.

We can’t help but scoff at our often-wrong-on-basic-facts media’s hysterical, moralistic coverage of the issue as much as we laugh about the robotic Russian cant which hilariously parodies our own leaders’ hypocritical drivel about “international law” and “not using force.”

The whole scene is a black comedy.

Somehow, neocons walk into this situation and don’t get the joke.

You know, the contradictions are really, really, funny.

How many days ago was it that people here on FR were saying that Putin warning about anti semitism in the Ukraine was all just propaganda? Not many.

Now, though when it's obvious, the people who said it was propaganda say, "Oh, well, sure those guys who are just like their daddies who served in the SS are anti Semites but they're pro-Russian" Funny, they dress just like the guys who supported putting the new crowd of inept dolts in power so maybe they're just typical Ukrainians who will jump on whatever bandwagon they think is winning at the moment.

So Putin was right when he said there were anti Semitic groups active in the Ukraine and the Jews who are beholden to the current "government" in the capital who said it was all propaganda were wrong.

It's really that simple.

Boeing sources about 1/3 of its titanium from Russia.

Bank of America, JPM, AIG.

Check out this conference and who’s attending, scheduled for next year:

http://www.bondsloansrussia.com/

at the Ritz-Carlton, Moscow.

Sounds like the old USSR ? Sounds like pure business, Western style.

Except, Russian sovereign debt to GDP has steadily declined for a decade, it’s down to about 8% I think. Ours is over 100%.

We have 10 aircraft carriers, they have 1. Our navy has somewhere around 3,700 planes.

Russia is only a superpower because of their nukes.

Russia is no threat to the US, but is a commerce partner of the US, like every other nation of the world is.

When you look at world commerce and military power combined, we’re the world’s empire, there’s no comparison.

We’re just rejecting God and running with tons of debt thanks to bankster-control by an incestuous little group who has their minions throughout our leadership.

Banksters keep needing more central banks and institutional investors to buy our sovereign debt, otherwise the Fed can’t unwind its portfolio.

BTW, my guess is that Russia would be very slow to confiscate property from Western companies. Even the appearance that they might do that could cause flight. More likely they would enlist them in a little regime change action at home; that a flood of corporate cash would inundate if some big bang up with Russia was bad for bidness. Bidness has some pull in American politics.

That’s why most of us laugh at the neocon hysteria over this nonsense. It’s very unlikely that even a hardcore neocon devote like Romney or even McCain would really do anything. If they did, they would get their wings clipped real quick by their paymasters.
