The Armed Rebellion on a Nevada Cattle Ranch Could Be Just the Start (As biased as you might think)
Time Magazine ^ | April 15, 2014 | Alex Altman

The Feds may have set a troubling precedent by allowing a Nevada rancher and his band of armed followers to win a standoff with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The rancher refused to pay more than $1 million in fines for letting his cows graze on government land

It could have been a catastrophe. For several days last week, hundreds of angry protesters faced off with federal workers on an arid ranch near Bunkerville, Nev. Militiamen squatted among the sagebrush and crouched on a highway overpass, cradling guns and issuing barely veiled threats at the government officials massed behind makeshift barricades. The specter of a violent standoff hung over the high desert.

The hair-trigger tension seemed at odds with the arcane origins of the dispute. Twenty years ago, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) decided to clear privately owned cattle off this patch of public land to protect the endangered Mojave Desert tortoise. Dozens of ranchers left. Cliven Bundy stayed.

Bundy, 68, has refused to recognize federal authority over the land, or to pay the feds for allowing his cattle to graze there. Those accumulated fees and fines now total more than $1 million, according to the government. Armed with fresh court orders, the government moved last week to impound a few hundred of the rancher’s cows.

Bundy balked, and the far right-wing media sounded a clarion call for his cause, casting the standoff as a flashpoint in a broader struggle against federal oppression. A cavalry of patriots arrived, bearing weapons and a seemingly bottomless grudge against the government....

Catch that phrase?”Federal Workers”.You’d think that the people the BLM sent were everyday cowpokes just sent to recover some cattle. When the reality was they were a Hostile Armed force sent out to intimidate citizens with Violence and denying them there Constitutional rights to Freedom of speech and assembly.

The BLM was lucky that day that NO citizens were injured because that would have been a disaster as large as the Little Big Horn for the BLM.

I used to help veterans and welfare moms look for work at the state unemployment office. Do you know what they call the bureaucrats that handle welfare, food stamps, Section 8 and related cases? “Income Maintenance Workers.” No, I’m not kidding.

That's why I get impatient in checkout lines these days.

I don't really know if I do have all day to wait around.

Plus now that my time is my own it's WAY more valuable than at a wage rate where I'm just renting it.

This is #1 of 79 videos on the subject. It might be an idea to download them all considering what happened at the Bundy Ranch this past week.<

So, for just general messing around with ammo cost being a significant variable, .243 or .308?

OR both?

This may be the start of a much larger thing coming on the horizon. The government is starting to stir things up looking to pick a fight. Which way to play this one? Remember how much ammunition they’ve purchased. This is planned to bring things to a boiling point. Then what?

Those accumulated fees and fines now total more than $1 million...

Huh - wonder what it cost to ship in a couple hundred heavily-armed BLM thugs? Uh, sorry, "federal workers".

Bundy “would probably rather be a martyr than a profitable rancher,” says Shea, the former BLM director.

No, he'd rather be a profitable rancher left alone. That much is absolutely clear, and it is, after all, what the affair is all about.

“Eventually, you have to draw the line. We go through these sad episodes where fanaticism has to be brought under legal control. And inevitably, somebody is killed.”

Who has to draw what line? And this passive-voice "somebody is killed" phrase - who kills whom? Lon Horiuchi on Vicki Weaver so that that family was "brought under legal control"? Really? Sad but "inevitable"? No. State violence is not simply a sad, necessary, anonymous force of nature invoked to keep the citizen in line. And clever framing and weasel words aren't going to change a damn thing on the ground.

I reload both of those. Talk to neighbors, you’d be surprised how many people have an old reloading press they would like to sell. They just don’t want to go through the hassle of writing an ad and taking phone calls from strangers.

"243 is what my gramma takes to church"

Your grammar takes out prairie dogs at a distance from church? OR maybe she has built a 243 revolver?
