Dick Morris: Democrats Conspiring to Rig Electoral College, Law Passed in 9 States So Far
Newsmax ^ | 04/16/2014 | Dick Morris

Posted on 04/16/2014 10:55:29 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

A plan, now stealthily making its way through state legislatures with astonishing speed, would junk the Electoral College and award the presidency to the winner of the popular vote.

The plan involves an Interstate Compact where states would commit to select electors pledged to vote for the national popular vote winner regardless of how their own state voted. When enough states pass this law -- sufficient to cast the Electoral College's majority 270 votes -- it will take effect.

The Electoral College will become a vestigial anachronism.

So far, nine states and the District of Columbia -- casting 136 electoral votes -- have joined moving half way to the 270 needed to put the compact into effect. The ratifying states are: Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois, Hawaii, Washington, Massachusetts, DC, Vermont, California, and Rhode Island.

Both houses in New York have passed it and its on Governor Cuomo’s desk.

And, it has already passed one house in: Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Oregon. These states, plus New York represent 107 votes. Combined with the others they are up to 242 votes . They need 270.

Who is pushing this?

All of those ratifying voted for Obama as did eight of the 10 one-house states.

The Movement is funded, in part, by the Center for Voting and Democracy, a George Soros-funded election group.

This WILL result in CWII insomuch as a war between states more than their people. The state’s ratifying this law are all part of the population centers near the nation’s coasts. The flyover folks (read: the better armed Americans) won’t stand for this crap.

I’m glad I don’t see my home state of Florida in the list.

If in effect it will break up the first time a Republican wins the popular vote.

This can be countered by states eliminating “winner take all” regarding electoral votes.

Democrats for decades have put all their constituencies into cities and their suburbs to swing states come election times.

Decouple the cities and democrats are doomed. Look at maps by congressional districts of Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan, etc.

I predict this crap will continue until the first GOP candidate wins in the popular vote and New York has to instruct their electors to vote accordingly. The jackass party will then go to court and find a judge to rule the law invalid.

The “compact” is legally unenforceable. The Constitution says that “No State shall, without the Consent of Congress... enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State...” (Article I, section 10).

Soros has also funded the "Secretary of State Project" to corrupt that office in as many of the 57 states as possible for the purpose of stealing elections.

With this trickle effect, I think long before all states move to it, those that have will begin to see they have become less important to Presidential candidates. They will not be getting the attention the Electoral College states do.

I predict we will start seeing states repeal these laws.

Destroy the two party system by requiring that the winner of the presidency get a majority of votes. If no one gets a majority, then the top two have a run off.

Bear in mind that the Founding States had decided not to let the Senate and president be elected by general voters. The Progressive Movement successfully forced mob rule of the Senate when misguided state lawmaker ratified the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, and now Progressive Movement Democrats are trying to force the Oval Office under mob rule by destroying the electoral college.

And the carrot that the Progressive Movement is dangling in the faces of voters who have never been taught about the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers is the PC perceived powers of the federal government which are actually state powers which the corrupt feds have stolen from the states.

Who just who is it that would be able to force them to uphold that commitment?

The problem with “popular” vote is that wherever you are, you will be voting against the cemeteries in Chicago. At least now, only folks in Illinois have to deal with that. Remember the number of Philadelphia precincts with >100% turnout? This will become rampant with the MSM remaining silent.

No, we should not move to a popular vote system. The Electoral College needs to be preserved. It is the most brilliant manner of choosing an executive yet devised.

The Electoral College is a assembly of representatives that sits for one purpose, to choose the president...the people indirectly choosing the president instead of directly...to preserve liberty and avoid popular tyrants.

OK so how should I parse this sentence?

No State shall, without the Consent of Congress,
lay any Duty of Tonnage,
keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace,
enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power,
or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.

The twenty most populated cities will have enough votes to elect a president and make the thirty smallest states irrelevant.
