Israel and Russia are getting along. Have the neocons noticed?

Russia and Israel seem to have a growing affinity for each other. A few weeks ago, Israel abstained from a vote in the UN censuring Russia for its invasion of Ukraine. The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported [link at URL] that this is a sore spot for the White House and a diplomatic novum on the world scene.

A senior Israeli official said that Israel's absence from the United Nations vote was viewed around the world as an extremely irregular measure, a departure from a long-standing Israeli policy of voting with the United States in the UN. While the Americans viewed Israel's behavior as ungrateful, in light of Washington's unshakable support for Jerusalem in the UN, in the Kremlin and in the Russian media Israel's action was seen as an expression of support for Moscow, or at the very least a lack of opposition for the invasion of Ukraine. [Haartez].

...

This also wouldn't be the first time that there was a significant split on an international question between American neoconservatives and Israel's leaders. Just compare how Netanyahu felt [link at URL] about the Arab Spring to the feeling of the neoconservatives [link at URL]. For the former it was a nightmare, for the latter, a dream come true.

To the Israelis, the motives of Putin and the Russians are predictable. With predictability comes the ability to plan and manage risk.

All the above posts are valid, but there is one small one that everyone seems to be forgetting. To see it, one must follow the “money trail” and in this case, that trail leads to: OIL & GAS. Just off the coast of Israel lays the 3rd largest oil shale formation in the world with some estimates of up to 4.6 trillion barrels of oil. My guess, Mr. Skittles, in his esteemed infinite wisdom, deemed that Israel is unworthy of such wealth & natural resources and will not work with them to provide the technology, etc. to help extract it. Russia, on the other hand, wants as much of it as they can get their grimmy little hands on as does Canada. If that means developing a nice, cozy relationship with the Israelis...so be it. Putin has visited there for this purpose a couple of times now. Meanwhile, the USA is slowing being shown the door in many ways. We direly need new leadership so bad.

Russia's threat against Israel is to up the amount of aid it gives to the terrorist regime in Iran -- apparently the faux-conservative paleolibs haven't noticed.

Agreed. I also see what Prime Minister Netanyahu is doing as far as a relationship with the United States government, as treating our current administration and its leader for what it is; pure reckless stupidity and lunacy, and a complete waste of time and energy. You probably already know that Mr. Netanyahu is an M.I.T. graduate and is vastly intellectually superior, and also has immense military and political knowledge and wisdom from his years in the Israeli military and political posts.

The political and/or military discussions (albeit likely short ones) that Prime Minister Netanyahu has with Vladimir Putin—who is no intellectual slouch himself, are not in any way because the Israeli PM trusts Putin; it is because the PM is “keeping friends close, enemies closer”. He is information-mining, and Putin is doing the same. I think that the PM may trick Putin into doing some things that are positive for both Israel and the Middle East—but Netanyahu also knows that Putin will say one thing and do the exact opposite, do whatever he wants to do, the Russian invasion and takeovers will not stop with Crimea and Ukraine, and he knows that Putin has already purposed in his mind to invade Israel with the military support of several Arab countries. Obama is standing aside from Russia because he has already made a deal with Putin; if the United States stays completely out of the situation (aside from some weak-as-water sanctions and a bit of military posturing to fool the masses), Putin has agreed to give the United States a percentage of the oil, gas, land/mineral, ports and strategic resources, once Vladimir has accomplished Israel’s capture and control. Of course we also know that as a Muslim, Obama hates the Jewish people and longs for their destruction.

God will protect Israel from the attack, slaughter all but 1/6th of the invading forces, and destroy Russia. Israel will spend the next seven years burning the weapons and burying the bodies.

I would bet Obama and Putin haven’t considered such a scenario for a second.
