As millions of Americans rush to file their federal income tax returns on Tuesday, few will be thinking that the current tax code is the fairest one of all, according to the latest IBD/TIPP survey.
Just 39% of Americans say today's income tax code — which features multiple tax brackets along with myriad deductions and exemptions — is the fairest.
As to what sort of tax system would be more fair, the public hasn't made up its mind. Thirty-six percent say a flat tax is the fairest way to collect income taxes, while 19% would prefer a national sales tax.
However, the survey also found that most (54%) think the amount they pay in taxes is "about right." More than a third (39%) say they're taxed too much, and just 3% say they pay too little in federal income taxes.

Not impressed. “Fair” is in the eye of the beholder. Many who think it’s unfair are anti-tax, but many more think it is not progressive enough.
Those polled are the ones who don’t pay any.
That means nearly 40% of those surveyed believe strongly in redistribution of moneys earned. The other 61% are mixed in whether or not redistribution is fair, or to what extent. That’s scary to me.
Most of the 39% who think the system is fair probably pay little or no tax.
The 40 percent think it’s fair I guess.
Those polled who agree that its fair probably don’t pay any...

...Exactly! You can’t possibly get an accurate reading on how people feel about taxes unless you go to the source. The tax payer.

I bet, since about 50% pay no taxes now, at least 50% feel it is not fair because they are paying the taxes while others skate or worse get money above what they were supposed to pay in. Special thanks to GWB or thought more people should be removed from the tax rolls while adding to the EIC.

democrats are little children,big babies who trust idiots in government to take care of them and to run the civilization. ridiculous , government can’t even run a housing project nor a government school , much less the millions of daily transactions of the free market run by crack professionals working with their own money.government morons take months to approve an action (a permit) etc.. who are government to tell us what we can or can’t do when socialism/government can never even work in the first place?

We just mailed the Feds a check big enough to pay for a nice vacation.It’s the vacation that Beckie and I can’t afford now,we’re broke.
