Pregnant woman dies after ovary removed by mistake [admitted for appendicitis]

A pregnant woman with appendicitis died after a trainee surgeon mistakenly removed one of her healthy ovaries, a tribunal heard.

Maria De Jesus, 32, underwent the operation at Queen's Hospital, Romford, Essex, after she was admitted with abdominal pains in October 2011. She died 19 days later after suffering a miscarriage.

Dr Yahya Al-Abed admitted he made a number of errors during the procedure, including removing her right ovary instead of her appendix.

Senior surgical consultant, Dr Babatunde Coker, is accused of failing in his role by not attending theatre to carry out the surgery himself or supervising the registrar.

Mrs De Jesus, who was 21-weeks pregnant, was discharged 10 days after the October 23 operation, but returned to the Romford hospital on November 7, still in serious pain.

Coming to a hospital or clinic in your city, sooner than you think.

Hard to access an Iphone when you are scrubbed in. Seriously, though. An Intern ALONE in the OR? I have NEVER heard of such a thing and I trained in surgery for a long, LONG time. He can’t tell an ovary from an appendix? And no one knew he was that hopeless? Bizarre. It is one thing to bemoan the “loss of standards” or whatever but this is an horror that is to much for words.

Wow....I mean.....I was a “C” student in high-school biology, and even I would not have made THAT mistake.

So, do you think I could be a surgeon in the U.K.?

Celebrate Diversity!

Coming to an ObamaCare hospital near you. It's certainly nice to know the intern's religious precepts weren't insulted by taking any of that icky hands-on female anatomy stuff before they gave him a scalpel to practice on a (formerly) live patient.

Third World medical care appears to be Great Britain's new standard. With ObamaCare it will be ours as well in about 10 years when those "expensive" American doctors go elsewhere to practice or simply retire in disgust. After all, somebody has to take up the slack. Who wants to train hard all those years just to be a government hack?

Not an English name in the lot.

Even the unfortunate patient was not English.

I’ve heard of a doctor clamping a ureter instead of a Fallopian tube and destroying the kidney. I’ve heard of a doctor taking out a healthy ovary as well as the unhealthy one because “we should check that one out too.”

But how the heck do you mistake an ovary for an appendix, a healthy ovary for an inflamed appendix? A Fallopian tube for the large intestine?

Well, you see, removing the ovary didn’t kill the patient, so it was just a surgical error.

The inflamed appendix that was left in place probably killed the patient but there was no surgery on it, so no error.

She’s probably not muslim. At least one of the doctors was. Anyone else think this might have been deliberate?

Dr Yahya Al-Abed

Well, there's yer problem, right there!

This mohametan obviously learned every thing he knew from operating on the village goats.

Also, he had been previously instructed to watch for any infidels that might present and to do what he could to ensure no reproduction of said infidels took place.

The death of the infidel was an added bonus.

Hey, it could happen!

(And probably did.)

Dr Yahya Al-Abed admitted he made a number of errors during the procedure...and she paid for it with her life, Yaba Daba Do.
