GOP Mutiny Could Unseat Boehner and McConnell as Party Leaders

It increasingly looks as if the Republicans will regain control of Congress this fall, with the GOP narrowly winning back a majority in the Senate and the House GOP either retaining or slightly building on its majority. But will the two top Republican leaders – House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell -- be around to enjoy the spoils of victory?

Both Boehner of Ohio and McConnell of Kentucky are crafty and highly resilient veterans who would be difficult for their opponents to bring down even under the best of circumstances. Yet McConnell is facing arguably one of his toughest reelection campaigns this fall while Boehner appears headed for another tough internal challenge from far-right House conservatives for the speakership shortly after the mid-term election.

While some political experts say it is far too soon to speculate on what the future holds for McConnell and Boehner, there are clearly some troubling signs on the horizon for the two leaders:

Mitch McConnell: While McConnell is expected to easily fend off a primary challenge from Tea Party favorite Matt Bevin, it will be a much rockier road for the 71-year-old leader in the general election against Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Democratic secretary of state. Lundergan Grimes, held an early 46 percent to 42 percent lead over McConnell in a Feb. 7 SurveyUSA poll conducted by the Courier-Journal and WHAS-TV in Louisville. A Rasmussen poll a few days earlier showed the two in a virtual deadlock.

If (when?) it happens, the first round is on me. I'll break out the good stuff too.

I’ll vote for Bevin. If he wins the primary, I’ll vote for him again. If he loses, I’ll vote for Grimes.

You are a moron.

ANY Republican, even the biggest “RHINO” , is better than ANY Democrat currently in Congress or up for election in 2014.

It's people like you who brought us 4 more years of Obama and who knows how many more years of Harry Reid.

If you have your way, we will have several more years of Nancy Pelosi in addition to the other two.

I concur, to quote a famous WWII general (Patton)...
"I'd rather have my "enemy" in front of me;
then my "Friend", stabbing me in the back."
or words to that effect.

Nonsense. It is people like you who have ensured that Pelosi and Reid can do whatever they want to do, and pay no real political price. Keep doing what you are doing, and you are a vital component of what makes Reid and Pelosi so powerful. Calling other people “morons”, when you clearly lack the capacity to comprehend the bigger picture, is a bit much.

The Republican party doesn’t need to be bigger (although it would be nice, it isn’t necessary). It needs to be infinitely more effective, however. Your approach guarantees that that will never happen.

Seriously, shuddup. It’s people like you that get down on your knee’s for the GOP-e and scuttle your ideals to pull that republican lever. I bet you’re a straight ticket voter thinking you are doing you part. Bet you’re not aware of some of the rule “changes” that happened a few years back within your vaunted republican party that essentially gives them (GOP-e) control over who is nominated to the platform.
Get a clue, the republican party as it stands today is no better than the democrats. They WILL NOT be getting rid of all the socialist crap foisted upon us the last six years, they are arrogant enough to think they can manage that socialism better. YOU will still get your wallet raped by the republican party, count. on. it.

Debatable. It's not cuban's leaf fault that Romney went down in 2012, or McCain in 2008.

It's people like you who brought us 4 more years of Obama and who knows how many more years of Harry Reid.

Cuban Leaf lives in Kentucky, so he has no control over Harry Reid in Nevada. I suggest you do a bit of research before calling someone a moron.

Untrue.

Its the GOPe and their distain for the base and its conservative principles that brought us 4 more years of Obama.

As soon as they put aside their big government bias they'll start convincingly winning elections again.

GOPe is as responsible for the federal debt as Congressional Democrats. And GOPe is working harder to defeat Tea Partiers than trying to defeat Democrats.

You nailed it. These fools who think they're hurting GOPe by putting in Democrats are ignorant. What they do is to defeat any chance of turning back the Democrat/Socialist/Nazi leadership now in place.

Oh yeah? How are those RINOs doing stopping Obama's agenda? They've been at war more with the base than their perceived opponents.

Better if the RINO lose. I am done holding my nose.

How utterly brilliant you are. Notice the stellar effectiveness of the current opposition to Pelosi, Reid, and Obama. Why in the world would we risk losing that? You are right to resort to name-calling, since your argument is clearly self-evident, given how rapidly we are regaining our liberty. And it has been working ever since the Reagan era! By simply focusing on the R/D ratio, we are able to stymie the left at every turn.

The country thanks you for your brilliance (especially Pelosi, Reid, and Obama).

The GOP had both houses and the white house from 2003 to 2007.

How far did they roll big government back during that time of total control?

Zero. Government got bigger.

For some its enough that the governmental noose tightens more slowly when the GOP is in control.

But there are some for whom its not nearly enough. And all the nagging in the world won't make it so.

“ANY Republican, even the biggest “RHINO” , is better than ANY Democrat currently in Congress or up for election in 2014.”

You know, I’ve seen this trotted out before many times.

I’m going to have to ask you to explain this to me. Prove to me this is the case. If you can do this, I will vote for any McCainiac or Bloombergian GOP limp wrist they serve up.

If you can’t, however, then I think its time to retire the old canard.
