Bush Urges Effort to Close Black and White Students’ Achievement Gap
New York Times ^ | April 10, 2014 | Peter Baker

AUSTIN, Tex. — Former President George W. Bush called the achievement gap between white and black children “a national scandal” on Thursday and urged both parties to come together to address it as the central civil rights issue of the modern era.

Paying tribute to President Lyndon B. Johnson at a conference commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, Mr. Bush said the real test of the nation’s commitment to equality would be to fix an educational system that has tolerated low standards for too long.

“There’s a growing temptation among public officials in both political parties at the federal, state and local levels to lower expectations,” he told an audience. “Without meaningful accountability, it is poor and minority children who suffer most. The goal of ending achievement gaps should unite Republicans and Democrats, it should unite teachers and parents.” He added, “It is only right to blow the whistle on mediocrity.”

Mr. Bush’s speech concluded the three-day conference hosted by the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library, where three other presidents also commemorated the landmark antidiscrimination law of the Johnson era. Mr. Bush reached across the aisle to hail Johnson’s domestic achievements, including his commitment to education, and noted that he signed a law naming the Department of Education for him.

“Lyndon Johnson was continuing the work of Abraham Lincoln, which is really the work of the Declaration of Independence — ‘All men are created equal,’ ” Mr. Bush said. “He made us one people. I’ve got great respect for the way President Johnson used the presidency to achieve big goals. He understood the risks to his party and the risks to his coalition.”

I think there are some politicians who realize this, but, they are afraid of being called racist if they say anything about it.

Paul Ryan was recently condemned, as he spoke to a lack of work ethic among people in the inner city. He didn’t specifically mention blacks, but, black congressmen and their liberal useful idiots in the media heaped abuse upon Ryan, calling him a racist.

I think politicians are afraid to talk about this, due to fears of being called racist by the liberals.

W., I fought like a banshee defending you.

Today I found out that you ordered a 72 hour cease-and-desist on the apprehension of illegal immigrants....

all to prevent Obammie-the-Commie’s aunt (or whoever the hell she was) from being picked up and deported....

all to prevent an embarrassing moment for Obammie-the-Commie....

This helped him get elected.

So I say this with the deepest respect, not just to you, but to ALL BUSHES...

EFF OFF AND GO ENJOY YOUR G-D MILLIONS ALREADY.

Progressive, New World Order bastards.

If a black student just tries, colleges will fall all over themselves to accept them.

And it doesn’t help Republicans at all.

Still liberals will think of Bush as racist no matter what he does.

And all it does is piss off the base.

It is not a matter of IQ. We are all the same in that respect.

It is settled science that Blacks score about one standard deviation below whites on IQ tests.

"Eugenics"

If you want to increase student performance with a eugenic solution, the problem has always been developing an effective selection criteria.

My suggestion is to simply select by political affiliation. Democrats have shown, in the last two elections, that they are either profoundly stupid, or evil.

It will shift the Mean of the Bell Curve 50 % to the Right, and open a great deal of real estate and employment to exploitation.

I’m just pointing out that there are only two solution sources to pick techniques from: Nature and Nurture.

BUMP!

_______________

Only a Liberal utters these words:

Only a Conservative utters these words:
The real test of our Nation’s commitment to equality would be a balanced Federal Spending Budget, every year.

Where on earth did all the white and Asian children go?

Not to the government schools in DC if their parents are smart.

Mr. Bush’s major argument against discrimination as president was that the education system was tilted against black students...

No, black culture is tilted against most of its members, excepting the ones who score big in drugs, rap, or sports.

I’ve got a brilliant idea? Why not tell the black kids to study?

That is too white. They will have none of it.

Get the kids in the “inner city” out of being locked into the government plantation society schools. Allow their parents to choose what they think the best school for their kids is and take their portion of government education funding with them (if it is REALLY about support for “education” as opposed for support for the public education industrial establishment), and you will solve the “black-white” school achievement gap.

The “scandal” is public schools and the statistical achievement gap is that so many “minority” kids are concentrated in the metro-area big cities and forced to accept rotten public schools. Let their parents take their portion of school property tax funding, state funding and federal funding (whatever that portion per-student works out to) to ANY school they want. In one K-12 cycle - 12 years - most of the gap will close.
