The rancour has strained ties between Malaysia and China, whose government also has put pressure on authorities in Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia's environment minister told AFP Friday that China had postponed plans to send a pair of pandas to Malaysia next week.
China had agreed in 2010 to lend the two giant pandas for 10 years in Beijing's latest use of "panda diplomacy" to cement ties with other countries.

If I were a Chinese leader, I would be happy Malaysia has goofed off. It takes pressure off of Chinese leaders, and focuses the peoples’ ire outwards.
Panda Lunch
A panda walks into a restaurant, sits down and orders a sandwich. He eats the sandwich, pulls out a gun, and shoots the waiter dead.
As the panda stands up to leave, the manager shouts, “Hey! Where are you going? You just shot my waiter and you didn’t pay for your sandwich!”
The panda yells back at the manager, “Hey man, I’m a PANDA! Look it up!”
The manager opens his dictionary and sees the following definition for panda: “A tree dwelling marsupial of Asian origin, characterized by distinct black and white coloring. Eats shoots and leaves.”
They rent them out for $1m each a year.
