Hoping for Asylum, Migrants Strain U.S. Border

HIDALGO, Tex. — Border Patrol agents in olive uniforms stood in broad daylight on the banks of the Rio Grande, HIDALGO, Tex. — Border Patrol agents in olive uniforms stood in broad daylight on the banks of the Rio Grande, while on the Mexican side smugglers pulled up in vans and unloaded illegal migrants.

The agents were clearly visible on that recent afternoon, but the migrants were undeterred. Mainly women and children, 45 in all, they crossed the narrow river on the smugglers’ rafts, scrambled up the bluff and turned themselves in, signaling a growing challenge for the immigration authorities.

After six years of steep declines across the Southwest, illegal crossings have soared in South Texas while remaining low elsewhere. The Border Patrol made more than 90,700 apprehensions in the Rio Grande Valley in the past six months, a 69 percent increase over last year.

The migrants are no longer primarily Mexican laborers. Instead they are Central Americans, including many families with small children and youngsters without their parents, who risk a danger-filled journey across Mexico. Driven out by deepening poverty but also by rampant gang violence, increasing numbers of migrants caught here seek asylum, setting off lengthy legal procedures to determine whether they qualify.

I often wonder the churches hardly ever say anything about parents hiring some the most dangerous drug cartels in Mexico, entrusting their childrens lives.I ask would Jesus, say,go ahead and hire the dangerous drug smugglers . Don't worry about U.S. DHS they do not and will not punish the parents for not only hiring dangerous smugglers and paying them thousands of dollars you will never be charged with a crime.,.If it should be the smuggler is caught, worry not DHS will STILL bring your child to your front door and arrest the smuggler. It's a win-win for everyone but the smuggler..Could anyone at free republic explain why is it legal to render the services of dangerous drug cartel smuggler and it is legal to pay them to break many laws.?May I also ask, here it says,Many Central Americans say they are fleeing extortion or forced recruitment by criminal gangs. But immigration courts have rarely recognized those threats as grounds for asylum...This will be 99% of central America ... Why isn't the churches instead of saying open your borders America, not offering to speak up about criminal put call out the world to step in start reforming these countries ? Do any of you guys believe this..Luis Fernando Herrera Perdomo, 19, said he fled Honduras after gang members shot and killed a brother who was sleeping in the bed next to his.So the gang members only decided shot one and let the other brother live.So why would the alive brother need to leave ?The gangs came, stayed, took out whom they wanted gang took off.Leaving the other brother out of harms way ?You can go to certain parts Houston,Chicago,LA Calif find said cites just as dangerous and deadly as the countries they left in Central America, just as dangerous in America

It seems America is under attack from South of the border and the WH. And no one is willing to admit it.

The commie ‘RATS’ “11 million” number is a joke. They’ve been spewing that crap since the 1990s. It’s actually somewhere between 35 to 50 million. Can we really afford to import that much poverty? “Act of Love” my ***! It’s time to put a condom on that “act of love”.

Oregon and Washington were both, once upon a time, conservative then people fleeing California’s craziness moved in. Look at Oregon and Washington now - total craziness.

Letting the illegals into the U.S. will accomplish only one thing - all the problems which they were running away from will begin to occur right in your neighborhood. Drug gangs, murder of your neighbors by persons unknown, kidnapping and extortion just to name some of the nicer effects. Don’t let the illegals into the U.S. at all - if they have problems, let them solve their problems where they originated.
