Some Illinois lawmakers are calling for a federal constitutional convention to amend the Constitution in order to allow laws that limit the influence of money in politics.

“When the Supreme Court of the United States rules that money is a protected speech and that ordinary people cannot pass common-sense laws because they might dilute the influence of the super-rich, it’s time to change the game,” Illinois State Senator Jacqueline Collins of the 16th District says. …

Don’t need Illinois in there. Go away, Illinois.

This is a ‘get out the Democrat vote’ effort. The Dems and their sycophant Media pretend that the Pubbies get lots more money from the ‘rich’. They are constantly agitating ‘to rein in big money’ because they know NO ONE will do anything about their own big money. Remember all the money Obama brought in in 2008? He didn't have to report most of it because he said most of the donations were under $200 so not reportable. Rriigghht....

Some idiots proclaim it’s time for a new Constitutional Convention. TODAY’S politicians will line up to approve.
Pick up a copy of the United States Constitution, the foundation of this, the greatest country in history. Easy isn’t it? A single page of (I think) parchment, written by a careful hand.
What would a NEW constitution be? A copy of the “NEW” constitution, about 23,500 pages long would, when bound, be the “Finals in the Olympic Heavyweight Lifting competition.’
The forests west of the Rockies would be denuded to make the paper required for copies to the citizenry. I don’t think I am overstating the end result.

First of all, they aren’t following it now. If no changes are made to the language, what is going to make them follow it in the future?

At the convention, it doesn’t matter how many people each state sends because each state only gets one vote, an up or down vote to present the amendment to the states or not.

Any amendments must be ratified by 3/4 of the states. Right now the GOP controls the majority of state legislatures that will ratify the best and reject the whacko liberal ones.

If you think that there are less than 13 conservative states to stop them, you had better count again. Each state at the COS gets one vote. Large states like California and New York cannot ride roughshod over smaller ones. The playing field is leveled.

Here in Tennessee, the GOP elites are firmly in control of this sort of thing. Don’t count on many of the GOP not to go along to get along.

Should we then just hope that Congress will give up the power it has grabbed and repeal the thousands of unconstitutional laws it has passed?

No. However, don’t count on many of the state legislators to do better than the national without motivation and monitoring.

At first blush this looks like just another insane effort to discredit and/or distract from the growing “Article V Convention of the States to propose amendments to the Constitution of the United States” movement, which is
the last non-violent means to rein in present tyrannical oligarchy presently dictating every facet of our peon existences or just plain lunacy. Remember this IS comming out of Illinois.

You are absolutely right! We should expect more of this. As the two legitimate movements gain momentum, the Left will pull out all the stops. This is just one foray from one state. Just wait until California gets wind of this...

I agree.. and I’m from Illinois.

I wish I could go somewhere else but I have a pretty big family on both sides and they’re all here except a couple lucky ones.

Sounds to me like they’re trying to ‘water down’ or confuse the REAL issues the States brought up regarding the CC.
