Divorce Beltway Style.. The Democratic breakup that exposes Washington’s rotten core
Washington Free Beacon ^ | April 11, 2014 | Matthew Continetti

Posted on 04/11/2014 11:36:29 AM PDT by george76

how obscene wealth can be amassed through rent-seeking and influence-peddling in Washington D.C., and of the hoary means by which the princelings of the capital and their consorts maintain and grow that wealth. They tell stories not only of an ugly divorce, but of the power of lobbying, of how one family maneuvered to the center of the nation’s dominant political party, of the transactional relationships, gargantuan self-regard, and empty posturing that insulates, asbestos-like, the D.C. bubble.

That the broken couple now uses the tools of their trade—the phone-call to a friend, the selective leaking of documents, the hiring of attorneys, the launch of a public-relations campaign—against one another is more than ironic. It is fitting. Tony and Heather Podesta reached the pinnacle of wealth and influence in Barack Obama’s Washington. Now they, like he, are in eclipse.

...

As government expands, extending its reach to every aspect of business, every sector of the economy, private citizens and corporations require sherpas to lead them through the mountains of regulations and tax provisions, to discover exemptions and special favors and other forms of relief or favoritism to improve the bottom line. And who better to act as sherpas than the relatives of the Democrats who impose the regulations and tax provisions in the first place, who better than the lively proprietors of a family business operating in the luxurious and morally uncomplicated world of the caste of limousine liberals who dominate politics, culture, news, and finance.

Corporations give to Democratic politicians, avoiding the scrutiny of liberal attack dogs in the media and nonprofit sectors, and enjoying the ego boost that comes with being on the “right side of history.” Then those corporations hire the Podestas to get them out of the Rube Goldberg traps the Democrats have enacted into law.

I never threw all Republicans in the same pot with the Democrats. I was only talking about the Rockefeller wing. The new world order, globalist, establishment that runs the GOP is cut from the same cloth as the Dem establishment.

I was not talking about “Clowncare” but about the perceived lack of character in our elected representatives.

Overall, I’d say republicans have better character than the democrats. They have to. They always get hammered for hypocrisy - the democrats never do since they don’t profess to have any values to begin with.

...the luxurious and morally uncomplicated world of the caste of limousine liberals who dominate politics, culture, news, and finance...

Reminds me of a few years ago one time when I visited the DC area, and saw how the TV evening news began with "...and now, from the most important city in the world..."   An amazingly overwhelming self-absorption; it seems to come from the area biz that the locals like to imagine is oh sooo important --an attitude that's not hard to come across in places like say, New York, Mecca, Hollywood California...

For your Morning PING:

Walgreens has come under pressure from an influential group of its shareholders, who want the US pharmacy chain to consider relocating to Europe, in what would be one of the largest tax inversions ever attempted.

I'm no fan of the GOPe, but they are not just as corrupt. Not even close. Not even in the same ballpark. I get tired of people drawing a moral equivalence when there is none.

THANK. YOU.

Dare we hope for the same for The Catamite and his Maximum Beard?

And lookie here (via Drudge)....

My company is dropping Blue Cross Blue Shield and signing up with UnitedHealth Group. It seems one of their subs is responsible for the crappy website. Great! Just Great!

UnitedHealth Group is expecting higher earnings thanks to ObamaCare. After United supported passing the plan, one of its subsidiaries, Quality Software Services, Inc. won a contract of $90 million for the rollout of Healthcare.gov. UnitedHealth’s Executive Vice President Anthony Welters and his wife are significant Obama donors and bundlers. The Administration did not perceive any conflict of interest in providing the nation’s largest health insurer with the keys to Healthcare.gov.
