Of the thousands of people I have known or covered in the Massachusetts Legislature over the years, Steve Doran of Lexington would be the last I would have expected to wind up in prison.
Last week Doran, 58, a former 14-year member of the House of Representatives, was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to drug charges.
At one time, Doran had it all -- a lovely wife, four daughters, an extended family, a fine home, a solid reputation, good friends and an upwardly mobile political career. He threw it all away.

Umm, he smoked meth.
Key line from the article. People can be snared by so many things: drugs, gambling, sex, greed. The bottom line is they are responsible for their fate. It's not the government's fault or responsibility.
This man, who had it all, chose to throw it all away. Let him fall and go splat as a warning to others.

A Democrat. Give away is his party affiliation isn’t mentioned in the lead-in to the article. It would be all over if he was a Republican.

Since party affiliation was not clearly indicated in the first sentence, is it safe to assume that he is a demonrat?

Kind of odd. The world of Norman Rockwell is one that Democrats seem to hate with a passion.
I notice some coyness about party affiliation.

I don’t see that face as ever having been that description, no matter how far back you go in his life.

Having first hand experience with drug users who then abuse their families, I have no sympathy for this idiot. Let him rot in jail.
The lack of party affiliation mention, it should be assumed he’s a democRAT until specified otherwise.
No mention of party in title, subtitle, first sentence, or first paragraph...therefore its a democrat
