The husband of the woman who was caught kissing Rep. Vance McAllister (R-La.) in a video that surfaced Monday says the congressman has destroyed his life and marriage.
“I’m just freaking devastated by the whole deal, man. I loved my wife so much. I cannot believe this. I cannot freaking believe it. I feel like I’m going to wake up here in a minute, and this is all going to be a bad nightmare,” Heath Peacock told CNN on Tuesday.
Peacock told CNN he wasn’t aware of what happened until his wife, Melissa Peacock, 33, called him a few hours before the news broke.
“He has wrecked my life,” Peacock said of McAllister on CNN. “We’re headed for divorce.”
The couple has been married for six years, and they have a 6-year-old son.
“It was just a kiss; that was all it was, but it embarrassed me and my family,” Peacock said. “This guy has turned my life upside down.”
His wife was seen kissing McAllister in surveillance footage that went viral on Monday. The Ouachita Citizen said it obtained the video clip from an anonymous source. It was recorded on Dec. 23, a month after McAllister was sworn into office.
Melissa Peacock was the congressman’s district scheduler, and was taken off payroll as of Monday night.
McAllister, meanwhile, says he doesn’t plan to resign and has asked God, his family and his constituents for forgiveness.
The congressman said he told his wife of 16 years about the encounter earlier this year, and they are working through it.
McAllister was elected to replace Rep. Rodney Alexander (R-La.) in a special election last fall. He ran ads touting his Christian faith, but Peacock told CNN he believed that was just a ploy for votes.
"I know his beliefs. When he ran one of his commercials, he said ‘I need your prayers,’ and I asked, ‘When did you get religious?’ He said, ‘When I needed votes,’ ” Peacock said. “He broke out the religious card, and he’s about the most nonreligious person I know.”
I hate to say this, but a kiss isn’t divorce material.
HR’s job is to protect the company, not to protect individuals.

That's not what the law says. Many companies make the cost-benefit decision to settle marginal or even downright frivolous harassment claims rather than defend them but that is a business decision, not a legal one. Also, many companies have policies against consensual sexual relations between co-workers or require disclosure of such relations by both parties. However, consensual relations between a supervisor and his or her “underling” is not prima facie illegal. But I agree it is risky behavior for any supervisor, given the presence of golddiggers in the workplace.
Unless it was a bathroom or changing room I’d bet against it. The company would have the only standing to complain about the video being released.

If you’re in public, you have no privacy rights. My small city has set up security cameras on every block of downtown, ostensibly to help deter crime and detect criminal behavior when it happens. However, the most frequent request for the videos from these cameras are not from the police but from divorce lawyers looking for evidence of infidelity of the sort on this tape.
I know it doesn’t make sense and it shouldn’t be allowed to happen but it does, and often, especially when it’s an hourly employee that accuses a salary or other management person. TN is a hire/fire at will state and managers and people in salary have no job security. The hourly people have more power with lawsuits and the company fears them enough that they are cautious most times about terminating them. Companies find it easier to terminate the manager than they do to deal with a lawsuit from an hourly person, or even a salary female. These laws need to be changed to force the accuser to prove his or her accusation and if they can’t, they need to be terminated for bringing a bogus charge.

I’ve seen exactly those kind of things happen. From a woman’s standpoint, I resent women like this because they make the workplace a more hostile place for all of us (females). When I work with men, I want to be taken seriously, professionally and treated respectfully. Women like this make us all look like scheming whores.
She has lost her job and, possibly, her marriage. How did that work out for her? Not to mention that if there was extortion, she may be facing a felony charge.

The law does require evidence of repeated unwelcome behavior of a sexual nature. It is the spineless HR policy of many companies, over-responding to misperceptions of the law, that has created the dysfunctional workplace relations between men and women and, truth be told, not-so-subtle sex discrimination in the hiring of women for many jobs.

Why, so she can do it again? She’s immoral. An adulterer and a horrible influence on her children (immorality). Forgiveness presumes contrition. Aside from losing her job I doubt she’s contrite. Just angry. Hence the CPS complaints and IRS audit against the husband.
Only one person was unfaithful to Mr. Peacock (who does sound like something of a jerk, so maybe his wife was angling for a divorce in any event). This was also over the Christmas holidays when people have historically done very stupid things.
